    Default Carbatec BAS-350

These are on special till the end of the month and priced at about what i want to pay. I don't have any experience with bandsaws and ill be mainly using it for re sawing and cutting box lids. The only 2 questions that come to mind are,

    1. It specifies a 200mm cut depth but will it actually do it easily and safely?. Most of the stock i have is 150mm +.
    2. Will the blade wander while cutting at these depths.

    Thanks.

The cut depth is the cut depth on a BS. The blade can wander or drift as the term is better known for lots of reasons including incorrect tracking, being blunt, incorrect tension etc. This is the best video to watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGbZqWac0jU

I have the BAS-350 and I find that it is under powered to cut the depths that you are talking about. I agree with Chris, if the saw is not setup absolutely correct you will get drift. I also found the fence to be most inadequate.

I used to own a BAS350 and agree with the above statements. First thing I did was purchase an aftermarket fence and that was a real improvement. However, as said, it is underpowered to resaw 150mm+.

I had an opportunity to buy an almost new Carbatec BAS4300 and that does the job very nicely. It also has a standard mitre slot, something the BAS350 lacks.

Thanks for the replies, looks like I won't be buying that one. Given what you all have said in your experience what would be the minimum specs I would need ?
