Carbatec SBW4300CE
As already alluded to elsewhere I recently purchased a new (to me) bandsaw, the 17" Carbatec SBW4300CE.
Every time I went in to Carbatec I had been eying this bandsaw off as a possible replacement for my BAS350, but couldn't bring myself to spend that much money to change over.
When a used one came up on the forum I jumped at the chance of upgrading, even though it meant a trip to Pakenham (why is everything I want to buy always way east of Melbourne?)

Anyway, it is now safely installed in the shed and a very nice unit it is. It came with 1" x 3tpi blade, what a monster, and a 1/2" x 6 tpi one.

It has solid cast iron wheels and has a very wide table.

Only thing missing, which I didn't realise at the time, was the table pin, so had to make one up.

Will be putting it through its' paces and report.

Well first impressions are very good, a nice smooth and powerful saw that is surprisingly quiet.
Cut various logs, some yellow box, grey box, red gum etc.
Had some Acacia retinodes root balls and stumps laying around and thought I'd try out the 1" x 3tpi blade on that, absolutely no problem cutting them.........until one of the rather irregularly shapes root balls was grabbed by the blade and slammed in to the table insert. Goodbye table insert, this was all that was in the bottom of the cabinet, rest I assume is in the dust extractor bag.
I had already decided I would replace the plastic table insert with an aluminium one, just like I did for my BAS350, guess I didn't have much choice now. After some double checking with another SBW4300 owner (thanks Groggy) drew up some details and turned one out of 6mm aluminium. As the rebate in the table is only about 4mm deep I had to turn a step at the back. Milled the slot 3.7mm wide rather than the original 6mm, which I find too wide for what I do. Will eventually make another one with a wider slot for when the table needs to be tilted to 45deg, but don't do that very often.
Put 2x 4mm grub screws at 9 and 3 o'clock, also 4 3mm grub screws for fine height adjustment. After installation and leveling everything now works very well. Quite an improvement on the old plastic insert

While I had things apart, took the opportunity to install rubber sealed bearings (5 x 6202-2RS and 1 x 6000-2RS), so won't have to worry about them for a while.

Yes a great machine, but is even better with a bimetal blade, its made all the difference with mine.
SBPower corrupts, absolute power means we can run a hell of alot of power tools

I had read about bimetal blades and a little while ago I needed to buy a new blade for my horizontal metal bandsaw. Local saw place recommended a bimetal blade and I was absolutely gobsmacked with the difference it made. I have never cut through 19mm 304 Stainless rod as quickly as I do now.
So when I need new blades for this bandsaw I will most definitely get bimetal ones.
