Cheap Guide help needed
I bought one of those no name, "german-style", 16" bandsaws last year at Grays online.
You've probably seen the like, there's about half a dozen different places marketing these dubious units . . . all look the same . . . all "greman style".
When I got it, i must say it looked pretty good, except for the guides.
The casting wasnt square, so the roller bearings, despite all adjustment, were meeting at the blade at about a "twenty to two" (clock setting reference), instead of around 2.45 . . .in other words,. adjacent to each other. (hope that makes sense)
I sent the suppliers pics of this, and was told thats how they came!
So, i made up a sizeable shim, and tried to counter-act the lean . . with only mild success.
I now discover, that after around approx 6 hrs use, the casting has started cracking, and will give way anytime.
Gee, this is fun!.
I know, I shouldnt have settled on one of the more "budget" units, but I thought that at least it would function correctly!
And now, unsurprisingly, I'm unable to contact the company that was selling them in Melbourne. . . probably dissapeared.
This is NOT the place i bought it from, but its a place selling one of its generic brothers.

Could anyone shed any light on this, or perhaps ideas for a solution, if indeed anyone is familiar with this unit.
The old guides are pure Fred Flintstone, and are absolute rubbish, so I guess i dont want to replace them with the same part, really.
Are there companies/people that might make some "custom" guides for me,
I know i'm being fussy, but I was after a bandsaw that kinda worked!
I'm pretty green at woodworking, so if anyone has something to share, i'm all ears.
any input would be really appreciated.

actually, although the carba-tec ones are quite similar, i think. it would take some serious mods to get any of those going on mine,
Which, by the way, was so;d as a "voltquip" , but came labelled "HRH".
The guides for it bolt onto a flatish shaft that moves vertically, rather than the guides sliding on a pole.
i'm going to have to replace them very soon.
anyone else have any thoughts?
appreciate the help
Chris

Carter guides seem well made, but are pricey.
.
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.
Regards, Woodwould.
