Choosing a Bandsaw
I am in the market for a new bandsaw and I am currently looking at a Hammer N4400 and/or a MiniMax S45N. I have found mostly favourable comments for the Hammer in previous posts but no mention of the MiniMax. I would appreciate any comments - positive or negative - from owners of these machines.
Thanks
BF

BF, I am now in saving mode, as I have decided to purchase the N4400. I have used one in the past and know the quality. Sometime early next year I hope to have the beast, until then I'll continue to use my current Basato.

Band saw n4400
Purchased a Hammer N4400 Band saw in February after waiting 3 months for delivery from overseas. Worth waiting for.
Top machine. So versatile best piece of equipment in the shed.

Nevermind, just found the price (a few sites don't list prices) of AUD2519.00 !! A bit out of my price range unfortunately.

I notice that Gregory Machinery in Qld are now selling Laguna bandsaws - this one in particular gets very good reviews overseas:
Gregory Machinery - Laguna Bandsaws - LT14SUV
I haven't got around to enquiring about pricing on this saw, and of course you'd need to add road freight to get it interstate. Might be another alternative to the Hammer though.

BF I have just taken delivery of the Hammer, as a novice no problems with set up, the Hammer stuff is good, this is my second machine from them. The Laguna is also italian and sounds like a very good machine, would have been my second choice, Ross.

I have to second and third the opinions on the N4400... cost about 2300 bucks a few years ago (however, have to mention, also a bit more to provide a 15 amp circuit to the shed... this is necessary to run the thing) Do I like it? Yep. It is easy to adjust, has excellent build quality, high quality blade guides and works like a champ. One thing which we don't always think of as well, is that it probably holds its value over time, if we ever become destitute and need to get some quick readies... I have sawn all sorts of timber with it, and it seems to go very well at resawing boards - even with the blade that was provided with the machine. That's my take on it!
cheers, Regan

From what I've heard, it is a good machine but a lot of people would recommend the other model
of Minimax , which I think MM16 . I have trajan 914 bandsaw, it costs me thousands of bucks but
it has worthy features.

Funny I asked the same exact question on a few forums over here in the States! I just sold a MM16 that was 10 years old. It is a good saw if you want to resaw big timbers or bowl blanks. I am looking for a more "refined" BS...better fence, easy to tilt, better guides, etc...I have a Hammer A3 31 on order and should be receiving it in about 2 weeks. Bad news is that the N4400 won't be shipping to customers (at least US) until early July!! I am leaning a bit more towards the N4400 but would also like to see an Aggazani...but the company was just sold to a German company and no saws will be produced until this summer as well!! Crapola!!
Best,
Jim
