    Default Comments on Bandsaws

How time flies, just logged on and found it's been some 11 months since I visited. A lot changes in that time, and I am now contemplating a new Bandsaw. Have narrowed it down to either a Hammer N4400 or a Jet JBW 18Q

Would love to hear from owners of these pieces of equipment and comments, good or bad about them

    G'day,

I am not able to offer you any advice as I am also in the market for a bandsaw. I have been looking at the Jet 18Q although have only been able to do so on line.

I am just wondering whether you have bought one yet? I am also after any comments on the Jet 18Q?

If I had the money, it would be the Hammer hands down. Only because there are others in here who have it and cannot fault it.

The likes of AlexS have one. So maybe a PM to him might help.
I make things, I just take a long time.

me too ... those are the two i was considering about a year back and i went with the hammer ... my wife convinced me that i would regret the lesser quality for a long time after i had forgotten the extra money ... i am very happy with it

    Default Bandsaws etc

Thanks for the feedback fellas. I tend to think the Hammer is in front. The fence system in particular I think is head and shoulders above the others. The rail the fence runs on is not unlike the rail on my Felder Panel Saw. The Panel saw runs a 2" solid steel bar held in place with about 15mm bolts. The Hammers rail is 1.5" solid steel bar held in place with about 12mm bolts. You get the impression they are pretty much bullet proof. I get the impression if you gave the fences on the other bandsaws a decent bump, as you may do if you are making up your own slabs from a log it could be the end of the fence mounting system. Plus the fact the hammer has 4hp driving as opposed to 2hp in the jet

Like I said I reckon the Hammer is in front

Default Hammer motor - wiring needed.

    Hi,
just a caution about the 4HP motor - you need to put in a heavy-duty 20Amp cable from your switchboard to your workshop. This will add $300 to $500 to your costs. If you have this wiring already, then disregard this message.
    Cheers

i ran the hammer on a 15amp circ for some time until i had a sparky in doing something else and had a couple of 20amp circs added as well ... it is rated for 13.5 amps .. i know that on startup and under heavy load it can draw more ... felder in sydney (where i bought it) recommended a 20 amp but acknowledged that it can run on 15 ... incidentally the plug on the hammer is only a 16 amp one anyway

    regards david
