Where can you get custom size bandsaw blades
On the weekend I succumbed to the lure of a cheap second hand 14" bandsaw. It is a Jacob Machinery Australia VBS-14 (Made in Taiwan) and whilst almost 20 years old. Appears to be in reasonable condition, mostly only a bit of surface rust.
It is the spitting image of the Carbatec SW-1401, except for some weird excentricity in that it is slightly too small for the standard 1375mm(92 1/2") blades. As a result it looks like I have to go down the custom blade path. I found this out after buying 1375mm blades from Carbatec and tring to fit them. Too big - Damn.
So any suggestions would be good. Such as how you determine the best actual blade size for this saw. I have had an attempt at this by centreing the top wheel and then measuring the approximate belt path. This comes out at 1325mm or 50mm shorter than the standard length for a 14" saw.
I have gathered after searching the forum that Henry Bros Saws might be the go. But I thought I would ask the question anyway.
All suggestions gratefully accepted.. I reserve the right to ignore them as usual.Greg Lee

Henry Bros contact details
Greg,
Henry brothers:
541 Old Hawkesbury Rd
Vineyard
02 9627 5486
Speak with Mark. If they can't help you with it you are in trouble - deep. The trouble with most of the ww suppliers is that they purely resell, and if there is something slightly different they can't help; understandable, but you would think they could assist by pointing you in the right direction.
Good luck, let me know how you go.
Anthony

Yep, Henry Bros. Good blokes to deal with. If anything takes a blade they can supply it.

Ahhh a happy ebay purchaser.
If you can't measure it with a tape measure, run a bit of builders stringline around the wheels and cut both ends at the same place. The stringline is then the minimum blade length.
Don't forget to backoff the adjustment as far as possible.

Greg, I dunno jack sheyte about bandsaws, but is it possible to modify it to take a standard size blade?
Obviously you've considered this already, but what sort of nick are the tyres in, retyring it would gain you some length, worth considering.
Maybe another way to increase the range of adjustment to reach a standard measurement.
In my ignorance it seems strange that a 14" bandy (popular size) would have a non-standard blade size.
People speak well I think of Academy Saws, dunno where and if stockists of bandy blades tho'.
Good luck...........cheers..............Sean

Strungout (member in the first thread) solved the dilemna you have. He is still active, maybe PM him for info.
st05 (member in second thread) isn't active, but go to his profile and send him an email, may get you some info or advice.

A lot of the early 14" bandsaws came out with the 91 1/2" blade or 2325mm. They are available anywhere that makes blades as in Henry bros in Sydney.
The current range of machines have the 93 1/2" or 2375mm blades.Jim Carroll

After measuring with builders line. Great suggestion by the way. Great minds think alike. It seems to confirm that this is a 91 1/2 inch saw or 2325mm.
I had to go back to Carbatec to return the other blades and as a result decided to let them replace them with the right size this time. However, next time it's out to Vineyard and get some decent blades.
By the way whilst I don't need new tyres on this thing yet. I thought whilst I'm on a roll. Where is the best place to get custom size tyres in Sydney as I'm sure these won't be standard on this saw either?Greg Lee

Yep. The echnidna way is exactly how I did it. I measured with string, then ordered the blades from Henry Bros. They arrived and were too long (my fault not theirs). I returned them and they resized them and sent them back (no questions asked). Fantastic service and I will defnitely be sourcing my blades thru them.
Regards,
Mike.

Bandsaw Blades
Yes, Henry Brothers are the go. I had a similar problem in that the 14" bandsaw I bought from Carba-Tec, Model WBS-14L which takes a blade that is 2565mm long, not the standard 2375mm. Henry Brothers has them in the post for me at this very moment.

Hi All,
Does anyone know of anyone like Henry Bros in Perth? Or is mail order to Henry Bros the best option?
