Default Cutting hebel block on bandsaw

I may be wanting to cut Hebel Block into accurate pieces soon. The CSR Hebel website says it can be cut on a bandsaw. I know it will wreck my blade but will the powder that gets produced also get into my Hammer bandsaw and cause damage?

    YES

Much easier, cheaper to invest in a $90-00 Ozito table tile saw. Will last for ever on hedel block

What a good idea. Did not realise I had that as an option and they are cheap. Will not be using it a lot anyway.

    Hi Kidbee

Can I ask what you are cutting it up for? I ask because Hebel can be cut very accurately and very easily with a cheap handsaw. I built a BBQ bench and wall with Hebel and did all my cuts with a $10 handsaw and then just threw it out afterwards.

Hebel is a light weight aerated concrete. I am making hives for stingless native bees out of it, thus my need to cut it accurately like a piece if timber. Some of my friends in the industry are making up their own aerated concrete using vermiculate in the mix and making moulds to pour it into.

I intend to use some Ramset plugs to do the joining with the Hebel block.

Hebel seems a cheaper alternative than timber and has good insulation properties. Timber being used is cypress, hoop pine and Tallowwood. Due to cellular structure of hardwood it has to be thicker than pine to get the same insulation properties, but it is much more durable.

    Hi Gary,
Hebel block for hives sounds interesting, I'd like to see some pics if possible when done, How would liquid nails or similliar go for joining the block?

There is a specific Hebel adhesive. Easy to use and nice and strong.

Tell us if you've decided to cut hebel on a band saw. It sounds very interesting to me.
