Default Delta 28-190 new blades from where!

    Hi guys.
So I recently bought 2nd hand a Delta 12in BS and I’m after a few new blades.
I’ve contacted a couple shops locally in Brisbane and they are not interested. I’ve contacted 3 shops in Melbourne and they haven’t replied to emails.
I’ve looked on Amazon and there are plenty available but ultimately none deliver to Australia due to some Amazon reseller excuse.

Does anyone know of an Australian supplier or overseas supplier who does ship to Oz?
I’m looking for 82in length (2082mm) in 1/4 and 1/2 in widths. I’d buy 2 of each to make it worthwhile for the postage if required.

Id appreciate any replies by members. Cheers

Any company who sharpens saw blades will be able to help, the bands are made to order and you will have to tell them how long you want them made too. Usually that length is on the saw somewhere and if not an existing band can be measured or failing that a piece of string around the wheels can be used. this link is one such company, they will post anywhere but there would be suppliers in Brisbane https://www.henrybrossaws.com.au/bandsaws.htm

    and some in Brisbane https://www.google.com.au/search?cli...UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

I would contact some of the saw sharpeners in that search, you will get good advice that a retailer as a rule will not have the knowledge to give.

I spent a few dollars with Combined Saw & Knife at their stand at the Sydney Timber, Tools & Artisans Show a couple of weeks ago. They are based in Deception Bay, Queensland, and seemed to be on top of their game with regards to blades of all descriptions.

    Check their website - combinedsaw.com.au

No affiliation, just a happy customer who was impressed with their knowledge and range of products.

You will probably have to get the blades made up as your length is a bit of an odd size compared to what is available off the shelf. Try to get thin material as they will last longer on smaller wheels. Thicker blades tend to crack earlier going around the smaller wheels.

Good advice there Dallas. I have seen a 1/2" wide blade at our wood club with cracks every 100mm or so all the way around taken off a 14" bandsaw. Looking back at it, the blade material did seem a little thicker than normal, hence the bigger stresses on it. The blade was being replaced as it had become dull, and a couple of blokes were having a discussion about re-sharpening bandsaw blades at the time, which made us look closely at the condition of the blade. Our timing was impeccable, as I am sure the blade was on it's very last legs when we took it off.

I spent a pleasant minute or so breaking it into little bits, made disposal much easier!

Why not try Henry Bros as they pretty well will do any sort of bandsaw blade and ship from western Sydney all over the country...

Thanks for all the suggestions and links.

How many TPI is a good all round 1/2’ blade for pine, ply, particle board, tassie oak small size resaw?
I’m not looking to resaw big thick hardwoods etc. more generally just profiles (the 1/4in is for this) but the 1/2in for straight cuts

I use a 3 tpi 1/2" blade and find that it's good for straight line cutting including resawing and larger circle cutting. This gives a reasonable finish and good cutting speed. I wouldn't use it for cutting thin stuff like 1/4" ply or mdf unless it was just for a very rough cut.
The 1/4" blade is a 6 tpi and good for cutting small circles down to about 30mm. 10 tpi would be okay for a smoother finish but slower cutting speed and not as good in thicker timber where the teeth tend to clog up a bit in the gullets. If you want to go for tighter curves you would need to go for a smaller width blade.
The 1/2" blade I have used for resawing up to 150mm and it works fine for that, cutting nice and straight and at a reasonable speed.

Read some of the info in this link to get an idea of how blades a re chosen then speak to the supplier of your choice and see what he says. Bimetal blades are the default, carbide tip blades are the best but generally used mostly for resawing.
