Default must do's when buying 2nd hand unseen B/saws

G'day members, when buying a bandsaw off ebay or gumtree etc, and the buyer says it was purchased in 2014 - please ask them to send you a photo of the DATA plate.

Also ask them to make sure everything is tight eg blade guides etc so they aren't lost in transport.

l know this really dopey d8ck that brought a B/saw, that said it was purchased in 2014 only to find it was a 2006 model.

Very clever wording, so buyer beware, if the price is too good - theres always a reason why.

Feel free to add to the check list.

Lucky Ledacraft have spares, well they are their way from tiawan.

I don't think it's necessarily sneaky to say it was bought in 2014 and then to find out it was a 2006 model. WW machinery is not like cars i.e. bring out new model every year. WW machinery doesn't change that much anyway.

Rather than focus on the date I'd be looking to see it has all the accessories and bits and pieces that are what you require. A friend of mine ordered a Jet BS and when it was finally delivered it did not have a fence and the guides were different to the display saw in the store and it cost her a couple of hundred to get those sorted.

All the fences came with it, but l was pretty pooey - as l asked the seller to make sure it was protected for the journey like wrapping/covering the motor so it didn't get wet and just putting some general protection around the unit, "yer l'll look after it" was the reply.

Didn't do anything except put a couple of boards between the truck tray and the saw.

l'm glad it didn't rain heavily when the truck was on the road.

The brass sleeve that the cast iron blade guide sits in was missing, so l ordered more from Leda, they are good to deal with, l emailed him to see if it fell out when loading the saw - no reply.

Just have to wait for some blades to turn up - ordered a bi-metal.
