    Default Ebay bargain

Won this carbatec sbw 5300 -21" 3hp single phase bandsaw on e-bay this week. Motor not working, cast iron table has a bit of surface rust, the guide bearings need a bit of a clean up and the tyre on the lower wheel is shot. Every thing else seems ok just a bit of tidy up required.
But I got it for $114.50 which I think is a bloody bargain.
I will do it up slowly over the next few months and hopefully I should have a decent saw for resawing.
    Whadduya think?

Make sure you find a replacement key for the slot in the table.
A metal turner should be able to knock one up pretty easily.

Thanks Bob "duly noted" - just out of interest what is the significance of that pin & does it need to be of close tolerance?. I just noticed that the same part is missing from my 14" carbatec bandsaw as well.

A dead set easy fixup. Very nice pickup.

I just stripped mine and redid everthing. They are very basic machines.

My only point would be that when removing the bottom wheel its mounted on with adjustment bolts that are set at the factory for tracking. Ensure you scratch the edge and the body to mark them so you can align it properly when its put back together.

The pin locks the split sides of the table together and prevents the back part from raising above the front - if this happens you end up with a raised edge which can become a PITA every time a cut is performed.

When I bought my s/h 4300 it also had the pin missing

    https://www.woodworkforums.com/f27/ca...4300ce-120831/

turned one up from SS and it works very well.

Made mine a snug push in fit so that the tables align properly.

    Default the motor works

You are not going to beleive this, I just set the motor up on the work bench to see if I could work out what was wrong with it and it works fine, the bloody thing nearly launched itself into orbit and scared the bejeebus out of me.
I was expecting smoke, a humming noise or nothing at all but its purring like a pussy cat. I am now wondering wether it has a faulty switch or something as I cant think why the previous owner took the motor off if it was working ok. Oh well more to think about now.

    Bargain.

My Jet developed a wiring fault after a couple of years.
The crimped spade connector on the back of the switch wasn't good & it started to get hot & eventually melted the insulation.

I'd be pulling the switch out & inspecting the wiring next.

If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

Cheap as chips for one where the motor doesn't work. With it working it becomes a super cheap bargain

Cliff thats what I am thinking, that maybe there has been a mis-diagnosis somewhere along the line. The motor appears to be fine so I guess its going to be a bit of trial and error to see what was actually wrong with it.

I think you need to buy a bag of lemons to suck on. This will help in getting the grin off your face

You have done exceptionally well. A bit of work on the guides and a good tidy up = one happy chappy.

Have fun with your new toy.
