Default Thoughts on this old Ezycut BS

Vintage Woodworking Ezycut Bandsaw Band Saw Aus Made - eBay Saws, Power Tools, Tools, Home. (end time 27-May-10 20:55:50 AEST)

I'm hoping to take a look at this saw in person to see if I'll be able to fix it up cheaply and if it's worth bidding on.

The wheel wobble is probably the greatest concern so is there anything inparticular that I should be looking at closely if I can inspect it?

I reckon she's saying that the pulleys wobble as they are loose...not the wheels.

    Heh. My bad Thanks.

Somehow I got "wheels" stuck in my mind and not "pulleys" and was thinking it was about what the blade travels around. Now I'm guessing she means the pulleys on the motor. As long as it's not a bung shaft, it shouldn't be much of a drama to fix...famous last words

I have an Ezycut combination machine and they are good solid Australian engineeting. I would think there is nothing that new bearings will not fix. And a new blade too. 1/2 HP is a light bandasw but it all depends what you want to cut. If you want to rip 8'' hardwood then mabe this is not the saw for you. Would not be hard to fit a larger motor if you have to but the machine will have a limit. If the wobble is the blade guides that is not a big deal to replace in fact they have to be replaced as they ware out on all bandasws. I will leave it to you to price new machines and figure what this one will cost to get running.
    Regards
    John

I went for a look at it tonight and doubt I'll bid on it or I'll just have to see how the auction goes because in reality the machine is quite a mess.

The top blade guard has been screwed into place (removable though) because it flops around and can make contact with the top wheel. The table can be tightened into place but it too flops around making movement on only one axis impossible. The adjustment block thingo at the top is as loose as all get out and just wobbles around in its housing meaning that any sturdy alignment or tensioning is also impossible and some of the bolts have big blobs of weld on them meaning they've snapped at some stage in their life. The wheel rubbers aren't in bad condition although they should probably be replaced.

Bit of a shame because the motor runs nicely and has a new pulley on it and it has enough height in it (~160mm) to do what I want.

I almost pity the person who is mostly likely going to pay well over $100 for it if they haven't inspected it first.
