Fitting new bandsaw tyres

hi every one, bought new tyres for my 14 jet, first set in 7 yrs but i am having trouble getting them on when i put on the top part of the wheel and start feeding them around they only come to about half way. i just do not think they will stretch as far as they have to go. i laid one of the broken ones around the new one and it is approx the same length. i tryed fitting cold, would it hurt if i soaked them in hot water to soften up a bit but it has a bloody long way to stretch and worried they may tear. any advice appreciated. cheers peter (grandad)

Soaking them in hot water is what I did for mine. Worked perfectly.

You sure you have the correct size tyres? the ones I have put on we're never as tight as yours appear to be

But I did hold the wheel still while my big strong son did the job

hi jillb, i have kept one of the old ones and appear to be right but when i tried the other day i thought there is no way these are gunna fit, he must have sold me the wrong size i did ask for 14inch jet. i will heat up in hot water and get the missus to help. but i do not think they are right as the amount of stretch that i will have to apply will i believe make them loose in no time. see what happens. cheers peter

hey tony , many thanks for the videos have learnt a lot and it did say the new tyres will appear to be to short but now i think i can do it. once again thanks for your input as this is the first i have had to replace and i thought there is just no way they are going on there.

The rubber tyres are easier to get on than the polyurethane one in my experience at least, I have replaced the poly ones on my 19" BS and I wrote a bit on my process here https://www.woodworkforums.com/f27/re...-b-saw-142226/ its a bit wordy but mind give you some clues

well my mate turned up today and got him to help me with the new tyres and followed part of the video and bingo won lottery the buggers fitted, but when first tried thought no wat, so thank you every body all is good and now i am not a virgin at this anymore the next time will be a breeze. cheers peter(grandad)
