    Default generic BAS 350 questions

    Evening all,
Had the drive belt on my bandsaw go today so pulled it off and found that some bearings had seized as well... did a service and removed the bearings from top and bottom wheels, bathed in petrol, blasted with hp air and re-greased. Saved two bearings but need to purchase two new ones.

Now for the questions, any ideas where I can buy a new drive belt for the bandsaw in Canberra (preferably Fyshwick)? Pretty sure I have the bearings sorted but happy to hear ideas if anyone knows a good supplier for them too.

On another front, I didn't get a manual with my bandsaw so if anyone has one for a BAS 350 (any brand) I would love a copy please

Is there a Carbatec agent in Canberra? They should have a belt.

Otherwise most bearing shops have a vast array of belts.

On the subject of bearings, I would suggest you go for the 608RS type (2 rubber seals) rather than the 608ZZ, the rubber seal ones last much longer and don't cost much more.

I put them on my BAS350 and haven't replaced them since.

Can't help you with a manual, didn't get one with mine either, but if you look on the Grizzly site, they have a model almost identical and you can download a manual from there.

If there is a Blackwoods outlet near you they will probably have the belt on the shelf. Alternatively try a good tool shop. If the belt doesn't have a size marking on it take it with you.

As for the bearings they're all probably rooted anyway. You can replace them easily enough with NSK or SKF branded bearings with dust seals that will pretty much last forever. On the outer rim there should be a designation code.

Thanks guys, have a Carbatec and a small Blackwoods here and a couple of other tool shops that I like. The bearing that I have is marked as 6203Z/2Z but will be taking that and what's left of the belt with me. Its in one piece so good for length but seeing it, I'm amazed it lasted this long... heading for Grizzly now

Sorry, just re-read your first post, the 6203 bearings are for the wheels, I thought you were talking about the bearings for the blade guides (608).

Anyway, I would still go for the 6203-2RS, they don't cost a lot more and will last a lot longer. The ZZ variety have a metal seal that will allow dust etc in fairly easily, the 2RS has rubber seals and have a much better seal.

I would agree that replacing all 4 whilst you have things apart is the way to go, they only cost about $6-7 each, will save a lot of work down the track.

Thanks Fred... I have put the top wheel back on after greasing the bearings but if the $$$ diference isn't too great then I will upgrade all four. One of the two dodgy bearings is spinning freely now (have been playing with it while watching tv... just a little ocd) so I really only need 1 but will see what I find out tomorrow. Took the opportunity to do a good service on all the other bits so looking forward to getting it all up and running again

    Final headsup on the bandsaw...

I picked up the new drive belt yesterday, put it all together and did a bit of tuning. Threw a lump of cranky red gum on the table that it couldn't even scratch without stalling previously and it cut like butter

    I love my new bandsaw
