Hafco BP-355 Fence Questions
Morning folks,
a couple of noob questions about Hafco BP-355:
Is it possible to reverse the L-shaped fence to use it for resaw?
It feels like I'm missing something - there is a profile on the back wide part that would accept the screws, but it is at the wrong height, and the screws are not long enough to reach. Or do I just ditch the small L-shaped fence and use the big rip fence?

What do BP-355 owners do when resawing?

Hi Filip and welcome to the forum.
I have had a 355 for about 10 years now but to be honest I have never used that bit on the fence. When resawing it's good to have a fence about as high as the wood being sawn so you can attach a wood, ply or mdf faceboard to get the height of fence you want. I sometimes found using the factory fence I got some blade drift affecting the cut so I opted for a version of this to solve the problem.
YouTube
Using a miter gauge allows the fence to be adjusted for blade drift. The base reduces your depth of cut a bit but you gain zero clearance. As the table slot is small on that saw I used my tablesaw miter gauge and position the base on the table with two battons either side of the bandsaw table. I like it way better than the factory fence.
Regards
John

Thank you John. That's an interesting idea, I'll look into it. I guess it is never to early to start customising the saw
If there are other modifications or tweaks you made to the saw, I'd be interested to hear about them.

Not done anything else to it as they are good saws for the money and mine has handled everything I have shoved through it. Just set it up right and use the right sharp blade for the job.

Hi John, I'm looking at purchasing the BP-355. What blades do you recommend for it, and did you get your blades from H&F?

@PhilMc, most people will suggest using a specialist saw blade place, eg Henry Bros in Sydney. They have infinitely more choice in widths, TPIs, and do things to length.

Hi Phil. I got my bandsaw blades from Timber Tools in Jersey Road Bayswater. They took five minutes , using my original as a guide, to make me 2 new ones. $20 each and a lot closer to home for you

Hi Phil and welcome to the forum.
As others have said stick with your nearest blade place. H&F blades are OK and on occasion I have got one seeing as I was there. My general use blade is 10mm and 4tpi. Does most of what I need so stays on the saw most of the time. A lot depends on what work you do. Big teeth faster cut, smaller teeth finer cut, smaller blade tighter turning circle as well as metal cutting blades and the list goes on. Something for every job is available. About 19mm is the biggest blade I would put on it as it can not put enough tension on anything larger.
Regards
John

Hi John
My 1st project (and justification for purchase) is to make some trim for a couple of 1m wide arched windows. Would a 10mm blade be ok for this diameter curve?
Could you tell me where you bought the metal cutting blades? And what thickness steel have you cut with it?
regards
Phil

It will cut that ok.
I just mentioned that metal cutting blades can be bought I do not use mine for metal. I try to avoid metal sparks around the woodworking zone after I almost set fire to the belt sander. I had to heave the smoking thing out the shed door. It's time for action when there is a smoking machine and the floor is covered in shavings.
The place I worked had an old 14'' wood bandsaw set up with a metal blade but it was only good for fairly light gauge steel. They later got a proper metal bandsaw and difference was huge.
Regards
John
