    Hi Alex,
it has been a while since I last used a bandsaw, I do remember the blade coming off the wheels when applying a bit of pressure, can this still still occur even with blade guides above and below the table and if so is it easy to put the blade back on with the N4400?

    g'day zelk

I believe that the N4400's will soon be coming out with cast iron wheels, I wonder what difference is this likely to make.
Would cast iron be heavier ?....if so, maybe that might help with more vibration dampening or ...and im only guessing... would the heavier wheel have more momentum ? there for adding a bit more grunt to the balde....like when cheaper BS have the lighter spoked wheels where as the pricier BS have more of a solid wheel.....then again as Alex says it mght just be cheaper

I do remember the blade coming off the wheels when applying a bit of pressure, can this still still occur even with blade guides above and below the table and if so is it easy to put the blade back on with the N4400?

this shouldnt happen if the BS is adjusted properly..ie the wheels are aligned and the blade tracking and tensioned properly.

The only time Ive had a blade come off is when I got a bit over zealous with a very narrow blade that got jammed and snapped .

Putting a new blade on a the N4400... I think is a lot easier than my old hafco BS....no unsrewing knobs and removing guards etc plus re-adjusting the guides is a no fuss opertation aswell.... though I would imagine that most of the bigger BS are pretty similar when it comes to blade changing.

    cheers

Zelk, I was out at Felder yesterday. They told me that the difference between the Hammer N4400 and the equivalent Felder BS was the Felder had a heavier more rigid frame, cast iron wheels, and a larger diameter wheel shaft and bearing. Extra cost?...about $2,000!

Just spoke to Felder about the N4400. The 3kw version available in december is on special for $2098 + GST. November units have sold already. But the 3kW version sounds nice. A bit surprised about the 20% deposit, I wonder why this needs to be so hire when they don't have any trouble selling them? Should I go for it, or spend the money updating my triton saw table?

Hi notsquare, the triton and the bandsaw are two different beasties.

Personally, if it was me, I'd go for the bandsaw and rip panels with the circ saw and a fence.

The 3kW single phase version should be an unbeatable saw at that price.

I've got the 2.5hP (1.8kW) version and it slows down slightly on a heavy cut.

The 3kW version should handle it with ease.

    Cheers,

    eddie

Would pay for you to be careful here, I think you'll find the 3kw version is 400 volt 3 phase as opposed to the 1.8kw 230 volt single phase
    Cheers

The guy from Felder was very informative and friendly and also was happy to answer my questions. A percentage of the December imports of the N4400 I have been told will be single phase 3kW versions. I guess I might need to make sure I have a 15 amp cable running from my fuse box. The 4400 seems to be supported by well over 90% of the forum responses. The only concern was the length of the table, which could be rectified with a home made built on system as a few have shown here too. I have recently finished building a range of cedar window frames for our house, and I am keen to use a bandsaw to rip the locally available 150x50 rough sawn cedar into 150 x 22 boards for external architraves. The cabinet saw may need to wait until the next workingwithwood show here in Hobart. Does anyone think the 20% deposit is a bit rich?

    Hi NS,

My concern with the thing is dust collection (poor at the table.)

    Otherwise, it's fine.

If you want the longer table, I use a roller stand.

    Cheers,

Better than letting you pay the full price and letting you wait 3-4 months I suppose, as certain Leigh jig dealer did

    No - I don't think so.

I know the guys at Felder pretty well ( ), and I know how they operate. A 20% non-refundable deposit is a good insurance for them that one of the machines is sold. It is a healthy sum that says you are definitely going to take the machine, but still gives you a few weeks to get the remainder together.
Think of it this way - you've committed to 20% of your price. They've committed to 100% of their price. I can guarantee you that they have committed a lot more money than you have on your saw.
I don't think it is an unreasonable request.

    And as Big Shed says:

I believe one of the forumites ( I think AlexS ) solved the problem by widening the gap at the table where the blade passes through.

    Default Finally go the N4400

    I finally got my 3kW 3ph N4400 delivered today.

I hoping to find out from N4400 owners as to what type of blades they are using or recommend?
