    Default Hammer 4400n bandsaw owners

I am keen to find out what the Hammer N4400 bandsaw owners think about their machines, particularly those that have had theirs for a while.

In single phase, was the 2.5Hp sufficient power?
    Cheers,
    Zelk

    thinking of selling it
    ....

    G'day Zelk

I have been the proud owner of a single phase N4400 for about a year...so far I cant fault it . The 2.5hp seems to be plenty of grunt for anything that I have thrown at it.

    cheers

I know what you mean BD.

Have you had any issues with saw dust clearance, as it only has a single dust port?
Do you wish you had more power and cutting height?
    Regards,
    Zelk

Not really...I have my bandsaw very close to my 2hp dusty which seems to create enough air flow to get most of the dust....inevitably there will always some dust that doesnt make it down the spout, but a quick blast of compressed air from time to time keeps that under control.

Do you wish you had more power
Not once has any thing I have tried to do required more power. From cutting veneers from 200mm wide jarrah to resawing largish green logs for turning blanks.

    and cutting height
I spose it would be nice....but I try to design anything I make to use stock no wider than 200mm (cause thats how wide my jointer is ). So so far it hasnt been an issue.

I guess it depends on what you need out of a bandsaw...but for me the Hammer does the job with no fuss what so ever....and is a big step up from the the little Hafco 14" BS I used to have (even though that was a pretty good machine too)

    cheers

What Brown Dog said. Had no problems ripping 200mm hardwood. No dust collection issues with a 2hp dusty & 3m of line.

I have been looking longingly at one of these also.
NewLou, if your machine is awesome then why are you thinking of selling it?
BTW Zelk, David at Felder tells me he has a special on this BS. (But you probably already knew that.)

prozac...I think you will find that poor old Lou is selling of some of his gear to fund something else. Im sure it is with great reluctance he is even considering selling such a fine piece of machinery .

That's right Prozac, they're on special, they are also introducing 4Hp in single phase.

Just throwing out some line Brown Dog to see what jumps out of the water. Hell, NewLou might have fessed-up and said "It's awesome, but it's back leg falls off when I'm just about to finish a cut", or something like that. Now he may never tell us what's going on. No harm meant NewLou.

Alas Zelk, even on special I think this fine machine is a bit beyond my reach.

Good luck with the fishing prozac

I was just referring to the fact that Lou has advertised else where on this forum that he is selling some of his gear and explained why.

I dont think calling into question Newlou's character by insinuating that the reason he may be really be getting rid of one of his loved machines, is that it is really a dog...... is gunna help you get a better price though

Zelk, Zed drew my attention to a question you had about the amount of table in front of the blade. I've never considered this an issue, but if you are ripping long timber, it's good to support both ends on roller stands.

Also, 2.5 hp is great, 4hp would be awesome!

    Hi Alex,
I recall someone in a previous thread commenting on this asspect, they thought the 230 mm distance seemed short when compared to other brands of bandsaws of similar size, eg. Jet 18" bandsaw. I'm glad to hear that this is not such an issue particularly with those that actually have a N4400.

I believe that the N4400's will soon be coming out with cast iron wheels, I wonder what difference is this likely to make.

Not sure what the benefit would be - the alloy ones don't seem to have any problems. Perhaps cast iron is cheaper.
