    Default hammer or felder

I was recently at the emu plains felder outlet looking at bandsaws and planer thicknessers and the sales rep told me that he thought the hammer bandsaw was just as good as the felder and much better value for money. I know that a lot of you guys do some serious investigation before you make a purchase and was wondering if you guys agree? Is the hammer gear used in professional environments? Thanks

it is my beleif that they are as good as each other from what I have heard about the traps, each would have its pro's and con's which if possible you may be able to find out from owners of these machines.
At the very least both are very reputable brands

    HI Mick,

    THey're both good machines.

THe Felder is more Industrial Quality(footbrake so you can stop the thing before you walk off, stiffer main post,) the Hammer is serious hobbyist.

They're both out of the same Italian factory.

    I use a Hammer N4400 - it's fine, no problems.

The Hammer has an electric brake - works when you switch it off. Great machine.

    Default Felder/Hammer

The way I understand it is as follows:

    • Felder, totally manufactred and made in Austria
    • Hammer has some components made in China, but all finished and assembled in Austria

I am led to believe one 'upper class' brand has their serious hobbyist/low end professional gear all made and assembled in China, but they still charge the made in Germany price

As for the Felder stuff, got a bit of it, it's just good, end of story. You would not regret buying it. Hammer? Good stuff too

Having looked closely at both, I'd buy the new JET 16" bandsaw ahead of the Hammer. MUCH more rigid frame, and quite a bit cheaper.

I'm sure the Felder version is superior in every respect, but wasn't very impressed with the Hammer machine I'm afraid. General quality of finish on the Hammer is no better than the JET either.
