    Default Hammer or Laguna?

Can anyone help me pick a bandsaw?!

I want to buy a decent all rounder that can handle hard and soft woods, straight lines and curves....not really askiong much at all...

Does anyone have anycomments on the Hammer 4400 or Laguna LT16 3000?

My main question is if I need to get something fixed, will I have to ship the Laguna all the way back to the US to get fixed as at least the Hammer has a workshop here in Perth...

    Any help?! Please?!

    Mike

Personally, I'd be happy with the Hammer. Reviews and owner comments have all been positive. The only negative comment I have read anywhere has been to do with the angle the table can be set to. Not a big issue to me but it may affect you.

There have been 2 negative comments on the Hammer fence in the last week or so, which would be a concern on a bandsaw in this price range.

hmmmm ... i made one of those comments and wouldn't like it to be taken out of context ...

i understand the poster's view that for a machine that is more expensive and of generally superior quality, it is suprisiing that it has anything wrong

BUT this is a very minor issue and doesn't detract from the machine in my view ....

    What fence issue?

Prior to the Hammer I had a 14" generic machine. They are not on the same planet in terms of capacity, ease of use, blade changing, power, resawing, etc, etc.

This is a bandsaw that will see you through the remainder of your woodworking years. As a hobbiest I cannot foresee that there could be a need to upgrade.

    The only "mods" .....

I have mine on wheels ..

    And I made a mitre gauge ...

i hesitate to recommend anything to anyone ...

what i will say is that i am extremely happy that i spent the extra to get this machine ... and that i think i would have always been unhappy had i not done so

the fence problem is a very small thing and i wouldn't bother getting a different fence ... the problem as i see it is that the fence tightens by a machine screw or bolt (which of course has a flat end) onto a cylindrical rod ... the act of tightening "twists" the fence which leaves it about 2mm out of square ... all i do is , using an accurate square, push the back of the fence in the requisite distance and clamp it (in my case with a magclamp) ... hey presto problem's solved

in most cases i would say that what i am sawing doesn't require even that fix but i do it as a matter of principle anyway

    regards david

Thanks for your info David. This information is helping me with my decision making as well. I think the hammer N4400 is sounding like the best value for longevity & quality. The magnetic clamp that you are talking about sounds like a good solution it is a pity that one does have to do this though, especially on a Euro machine that is not a low end product. Where did you get your magnetic clamp from what was the cost?

    Thanks
