Hammer N4400 problems
Hey Guys,
Yet another problem occurs with the N4400.
First off the technician at Felder contacted me saying the blade has to be tracked with the teeth sticking out on the front instead of tracking the blade in the middle because it is a flat tire!!!
They are still getting back on the question how to track a small blade because if it is tracked even a bit front of the centre, the back guide cannot support the back of the blade because the red column post is in the way.
My question to other fellow N4400 users is; Are your upper wheel guides also fitting this sloppy (especialy left to right movement) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTxIOdGCQVc ?
Also my blade suddenly tracks back and forth with about 2 mm instead of keeping a straight path https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXpUiixkVH8.
And as a last question: the frame itselfe seems to be not in one line.
If you put a straight edge on the frame (above and below the upper wheel; above and below the lower wheel) the frame below the lower wheel shows a gap of 2 cm, is this normal?
Comming up ===>>> Hopefully an improvement to adjusting the upper wheel tilt left to right (even still with the sloppy fit).

Hi
Next time I have the blade off I will check for slop and report back. But from memory, no it not that lose....
I only have the teeth in front of the guides and the blade running on the middle of the wheels.
Where did you buy it from? are you getting you advice from Felder?

It is a solid build cast-iron wheel support milled nicely, but it rides in a bended ordinairy C profile carriage
The teeth are in front of the wheels instead of supported by the tires, the guides are just fine. It's a flat tire and the salesman at Felder says it has to track like this unlike crowned tires.
However I did not yet recieved mail from their technician technician...
I bought the first new upgrade of the machine at Felder Belgium first week of august, still awaiting their help after few mails...
Also if possible, can someone check out if the structure below the lower wheel is in-line with the structure above and below the upper wheel and above the lower wheel?
Did mount the custom part at the moment and it is adjustable like a charm, pic's follow...
Blade wobble front to back is better as well but not quite like it should be.

Hi, I wasn't going to pull the bandsaw apart but: The looseness in the the wheel is the same, you can turn the wheel right-left forward-backward like you are showing. (as long as there is no blade tension) I have had no problems with the bandsaw. Good luck

I bought my N4400 in February this year and when I fitted my first blade it was tracking on the front edge of the lower wheel. However my manual states "....set the saw blade track so that it lies in the centre of both wheels...". I adjusted the lower wheel via the 4 bolts at the back of the machine to get the blade to track in the centre of the lower wheel. This was done after receiving advice from the Felder service technician. I checked the tyres and they are not flat but slightly crowned, but not as much as other bandsaws that I have seen. It appeares there is conflicting information out there. My saw cuts perfectly straight and square without drift and wander and has plenty of power. There is a demonstration video on the Felder website that implies the blade should track on the front of the lower wheel. May there are machines with flat and crowned tyres out there.

Frame non-alignment
Hi, I believe Felder outsources the manufacture of the Hammer bandsaw frame + wheels + table to a well known Italian bandsaw manufacturer and then does the final fitting out with motor, electrics, etc. I can't remember which manufacturer but I came across pictures of one of their models that was virtually identical frame-wise to the Hammer.
My own Hammer N4400 has the table mounting bracket skewed at 15 degrees to the frame front - it should be parallel to the frame front (I can only conclude this is a manufacturing defect I did not expect, and which did not happen to lots of other Hammer N4400 buyers).
Like Blackforester, my bottom wheel had to be adjusted by me so it was properly aligned to the table mounting bracket; luckily the slop / slack in the mounting for the top wheel then enabled the top wheel to move into alignment with the bottom wheel.
