Hammer N4400 Accessories
Hi guys,
I have ordered a new Hammer N4400 for delivery in December and am considering some of the accessories.
I have got the following information on the available accessories and am curious which ones if any others have bought or the thoughts you might have to offer.
500-156 Table extension set for N 4400 for 2 sides $199.00
500-101 Table extension, alu $189.00
500-129 Table extension, alu $254.00
500-103 Table extension supporting leg $118.00
500-149 Lifting bar for HAMMER machines $99.00
500-142 Assembly kit Standard for precision mitre guide on outrigger table $247.00

I've ordered the same machine, and am also in Canberra. Sorry you haven't had any responses to your post, as would also be interested in views? Have you found out anything about these extra's from other sources?

A couple of thoughts:
I have a few Felder table extensions that I use on my Meber bandsaw and find them a fine and valuable addition to the machine. I have a one metre extension with support leg and routinely resaw four metre boards without assistance. I also use similar extensions made from Maytec extrusions on the other machines, and they even get use on my wife's sewing table.
My bandsaw (and for that matter dill press and route tables) are now on skids, allowing me to use a $200 eBay pallet jack* for mobility. The pallet jack also allows using a pallet under the offcut bin, and makes moving the workbench possible too.

Some more info
I have managed to find out a little more info on the options but its not definitive and I have been a little too busy to follow up.
If you have the Hammer catalogue - look on page 66 where there are pictures of the accessories for the N4400.
It seems that if you want the extension table then you need all the various bits. You need part 500-156 (coupling device for table extension on bandsaw N4400) which bolts onto the end and side of the table. Then you need the 500-102 (mounting rail for table extension) for the end of the table, and part 500-151 (mounting rail for table extension) for the side of the table - these connect to the coupling device. Then part 500-129 gives you a 800mm rear table extension which needs to be supported by the leg 500-103. Part 500-101 gives you a 400mm side extension to the table (these connect to the the mounting rails).
So in summary if you want all these bits you are up for $760 for all the table extensions (ie $199+$189+$254+$118).
If you want the wheels and lifting bar then I believe its roughly $120 for the wheels plus $99 for the bar - say $220.
Then the last option is the mitre bar at $247.
Lastly I understand that the dust port is 120mm - so go to page 78 of the Hammer catalogue and you need part 02.2.021 which is the reducer from 120/100mm - no idea of the cost.
So if you want all the options you are up for well over $1000 (this if what I currently understand).
It would be great if someone from Felder or someone that has definitive knowledge can add something further.

Thanks for the other suggestions guys.
Greg - I will look into a pallet jack - that will cost as much as the wheels and bar anyway. Do you have any links on ebay that you can recommend or shall I just do a search?
Alex - I will look into the bi-metal blades.
As an aside I sat through Richard Vaughan's presentations at the 2007 Canberra WWW show and he showed some laminates of aussie hardwood straight off the bandsaw - using a blade from Auswide Saw & Tooling in Brisbane - it has a variable blade per inch BUT is expensive - like $300 per blade. He said Terry Gordon the plane manufacturer put him onto this blade for abrasive hardwoods. You do need a good quality bandsaw that you can tension up the blade. I believe the blade is for cutting aluminium but works great for timber.

Hi Numbat,
factory table extensions may be nice, although the table on the saw is ok, If you need the extra size you could easily make one that folded down or do as I do and use a nearby bench as an outfeed table for long stuff. I have a Sheppach Basato 5-4 and it has a 640x640 table, factory accessories are expensive for what they actually are. Go a bimetal blade and or a mobile base.

Steve
