You can run a 20A machine on a 15A circuit (there are some here who do just that), but you will not obtain the full power from your machine. In the case of a 4 hp bandsaw, you will likely get 3 hp out of it.

    I run my 4400 on a 20A circuit.

    Regards from Perth

The 4hp motor in the N4400 will draw around 17-18A under FULL LOAD, and FULL LOAD only occurs when the motor is bogging down.

If you go back through this thread you will notice that everyone claims their N4400 will slice through anything without bogging down. This means a 20A circuit is a waste of money, as is the 4HP motor.

I have a 2007 N4400 and it only has a 2.5HP motor yet still has the 20A plug. I can't bog mine down at full resaw capacity cutting NG Rosewood using a 1" 1.3TPI Lennox bi-metal blade. Maybe I could bog down the blade if my feed speed was ridiculously high, but I can't safely handle the wood at those stupid speeds.

    Get the N4400.

    Cheers

if i had needed to put in a new circuit i would get it made a 20amp one but as i already had a 15 amp i used it ... incidentally the plug that comes with the machine and for which you need to make your own lead anyway is only rated at 16 amps

it WILL slice through anything very easily

    regards david

Thx for all the replies!! I do not run multiple machines at the same time. I live in Sydney (240V) and current wiring is 15amp. Teh replies were very informative and I'll manage with 15amp for the time being.

    Cheers

15A will be fine. That's what I have, with circuit breaker. It's never tripped. Has occasionally on starting up the T/S.
