Can anyone heip me?
I am trying to find out what brand of band saw I own. It has no brand name on it apart from a sticker saying it came from the Brighton Grammar School. I have replaced the switch, the original one was metal, also put the fence on it. The tension adjuster broke so I had one made ( does not work properly ) as I could not find anyone who sold them. The tensioner was made of alloy, the wheels are 18 inch or just a fraction under. You can get a tensioner for a 14 inch saw but not this one. So I am going to try and add some photos to see if anyone might have an idea as to the make of band saw. Many thanks in advance John.

Is it not one of the many clones of the Delta / Rockwell Delta model?

Thanks for the reply Colin62. I have tried looking at pictures of those models of band-saws, but none of them look the same. Even the spare parts for different models have the same sort of tension system for 14" models, but not for 18" which is just a little bit bigger. Which is why I was hoping to find out exactly what sort of saw it is.
Cheers John.

You might be right bosox, no-one seems to know what it is. I thought someone would know, then I could at least find the part I need.

your Pic's show everything expect the tension system, a pic of this may assist.
It may be that you will have to design a tension system from scratch, but there should be 1 in the market place that could be modified to suit,.
Have you contacted H&F, Carba-Tec, Gregory Bros, Gary Payne( on Gold Coast), these companies may be of assistance.

Sorry have been away for a while. I have tried Carbatec and Gary Pye, but they do not have the correct size tension system(only for 14" saws. Will attach a couple of pics of the offending part. Hope this helps.
Cheers John.

so what exactly is wrong with this tensioning system?
Whay is the replacement not working?
AND
If it was sold into a school in QLD, pretty fair odds it came from Gregory Machinerey

Hello soundman. The saw came from Brighton school in Victoria, the pictures were taken before the tensioner broke.

In that case, gregories probaly don't sell it......but the another member of The Woodman Group may have.
Have you tried Woodworking Warehouse in melbourne.
Gregories may still be able to help because they may have sold similar gear.
The problem is, most people have gone out of cast frame bandsaws now, particularly above 14 inch.
Worse comes to worse...how broken is the original part.....I know a pretty good aluminium welder.

Thanks soundman, I think I will get a steel one made. Then it should never break again! Thank you for all the help, much appreciated.

If you go to google images and type in bandsaw you get quite a few images that look like yours,
including one here Machinery for woodworking at Brisbane saw service.____________________________________________________________

Yeh brisbane saw service might be worth a shake.
As for making it out of steel....probably not necessary... a good grade of aluminium would be just fine and a hell of a lot easier to machine.

Avery that looks exactly like the saw I have. Will give them a go and see how I get on. Thanks everyone for all the help, I would not have found it if it had not been for this forum.
Cheers John.

Its still got the Grammar School bar code on it. Have them scan it and it should show up the make, etc in their inventory. Other than that a bandsaw blade maker/repair business should be able to identify it. Send a photo to Peacock Saws at West End in Brisbane and they might be able to help.
