Default Help wanted with Hafco BP-250

I picked up a free Hafco BP-250 from the marketplace, but it is missing the drive belt & both drive pulleys, as well as the rip fence. It will cost more than 1/2 the price of a new saw for these parts, plus around 5-6 months wait for the motor pulley, unless I pay an extra $55 for airfreight. Does anyone have a dead one that they would sell me the parts from or be able to measure & sketch up the two pulleys for me so I can make them myself. If i can't fix it, it will be free to a good home for anyone that wants it.

Got a mate with a lathe?
They are only a poly vee pulley, so will be fairly easy to machine. The pulley that goes on the lower wheel has a 3 bolt flange that mates to the lower wheel.
Have you got an owners manual? If not, this is the link to it.
    http://images.machineryhouse.com.au/...ction%20Manual
It contains a parts list which is obviously not dimensioned but does give a general layout.
To get 900M/Min band speed+, you will want to gear the motor down so that the lower wheel spins at 1170 RPM.
The only way this is viable is if you can get the machine work very cheaply. Aluminium will be fine for the pulleys.
I wouldn't be too concerned about cutting keyways in the motor pulley as grub screws will lock it more than securely enough, particularly if loctite is used. You can probably just but a poly vee motor pulley from a bearing supplier.

Thanks for the reply Karl. Unfortunately they are not a V belt, but are a ribbed flat belt. I can just buy the belt & work out the sizes to make them myself, but was hoping someone could measure them up to save me the job of working it all out. I didn't want to spend too much as there is a bit of damage around the motor mounts & I'm not 100% sure I will be able to get it working.

When you say a ribbed flat belt, do you mean longitudinal ribs, like multiple small vees or are we talking cross ribs like an automotive timing belt? If it's the former, they are called poly vee belts.
Sounds like it may be a bit of work to rejuvinate the old girl. Is the motor ok or do you need to put a different one on?
Dare I ask what happened to the machine to cause the damage?

Yes, it's a poly V belt. I've always known them as ribbed & the ones with the cross ribs as toothed belts. The motor is OK, but the previous owner tried to fit a bigger motor, without success & has lost or destroyed the pulleys. It looks like it has taken a hit to the motor, as the back plate of the lower housing & motor mount posts are slightly bent.
It was a freebie, so I will put it away until I have some spare time to play with it. It may be easier to just convert it to a plain V belt drive.

I suspect that you may be stuck with using the poly vee belt as conventional vee belts require larger diameter pulleys due to the less flexible belts.
You can buy poly vee pulleys from a bearing supplier, but as your saw was a cheaper unit originally and has a couple of issues, you wouldn't want to invest too much time and effort.
Good spare parts for another project perhaps?
