Default Help identifying part of BP-355 bandsaw

Hi. Can anyone identify the part arrowed in the attached image. H&F BP-355 bandsaw. Made of pressed metal. Attached to the upper guide safety cover.

The manual appears to be generic to all MJ3435 bandsaws, in their many configurations and name badges - so isnt much help.

I cant see any function that it does in a worthwhile manner - except making it difficult to adjust the guide bearings and making annoying rattley noises when the machine is running.

    cheers
    Arron

It defines the length of up and down movement of the guide arm. If you wind down near the table to adjust the guides then it is not in the way.

    Ok,that sounds right.

If its an adjustable depth stop then it must be fixable at the chosen point. Is that what the little screw on the side is meant to do? I'm asking as mine doesnt lock in place - it is free to slide up and down because that screw doesn't have any purchase at all - possibly missing a washer ???

    Thanks for the reply

I dont think it is a depth stop as such and I cant see the need for one on a bandsaw as you just wind up enough so the work can pass under the arm. It simply is there so you dont over wind the arm and damage anything. The screw only stops the plate falling off. It is ment to slide as the plate is shorter than the travel length of the arm. Wind the arm up and down and watch how the plate slides and the hooked ends of the plate stop the arm. That should explain things better than I can put in words.
