Help needed -Paul Call Bandsaw
I have seen a Paul Call Bandsaw for sale ($100) - the cutting height would be about 5 1/2" and about 15" deep across the table (throat?).
It's very old but seems a good unit.
Should the wheels have rubber on them or not? If "yes" how can this / should this be re-done?
Can blades be sources for them - approximately 76" blade needed?
Is $100 high / low or about on the money?
Are these English or Italian?
Couldn't find a year date on it.
Thanks
Robert

Paul Call machinery was made in Australia and are long gone, if it is a wood cutting bansaw it should have rubber on the wheels, If it is in good condition then $100 is a bargain, Paul Call made very good quality products I have a Radial arm saw it has beeen in use daily for 20+years. You may find if the tyres need to be moulded in place it will be Fairly expensive about $160 each, but they will last for many years, blades are cut to order virtualy any length

Measure the wheels - that is the 'true' measurement for a bandsaw. Most were 14", some are/were smaller - 10", 12" etc, and some larger - I've seem photos of ones up to 36"!! If the wheels measure 14" across, then you are on easy street - there are heaps of accessories that should fit, like new tires for the wheels, ball bearing blade guides etc. Any supplier of bandsaw blades (real suppliers, not Bunnies - look them up in the yellow pages - Henry Brothers in NSW for one) should be able to supply blades the right length - if in doubt, run a length of string around the wheels once you have the tires in place & the spring wound right down, then measure it - you will find it is within a few millimetres of a standard size.

Hi Woody60
I used my dads Paulcall bandsaw for years until he took it back.
I found that the depth of cut was limited at 4.5 inches but otherwise a good work horse.
I had to replace the tires about 30 years ago and I just bought rubber bandsaw tires but they did not fit. They were too large and not knowing any better I cut them to length and scarfed the joint so that leading edge was against the direction of travel.
Still going strong.
