Default Saw identification and replacement pulley

    Hi Guys,

I'm I new member and this is my first post so please take it easy on me ;-)

I'm working out of a shared makers-space in Newcastle. My knowledge is not great re working with timber and am hoping you may be able to assist me. Can any of the forum members identify this saw and give me anyassistance to where I might buy the correct pulley?

The challenge is that their is no branding on this saw at all as the stickers seem to have fallen off, I suspect it's an older hobby style saw from maybe the late70's?. We are very keen to have this saw up and running. I am wanting to buy (or make) the correct drive pulley that attaches to the motor. As you can see by the images it should have a 3 tiered drive pulley on the motor but has only a single pulley. As the images will reveal, this is currently only allowing a speed of 120rpm? suitable for metal? (or is this fast enough for the majority of timbers in your opinion/s?)

    Thankyou kindly,
    Kieran

The motor has 1985 marked on it as the manufacturing date and I'd be comfortable saying that that was when the saw was made. It's painted 'Taiwan Green', a very common colour for machinery from that region in the 80's and 90's, and they still make something that is, probably, identical - Taiwan 14" Band Saw | Taiwantrade It is likely to have been distributed by a number of sellers, who all put their own brand on it with the only consistency being the model no.

The saw that you have is possibly identical to one sold in the US as a Valuecraft 8170A. Gasweld was one of the big sellers of Taiwanese woodworking machines in the 80's and 90's.

Found it! - Naerok & Nu-Tools Bandsaws It appears that it is designed to take a round belt so there is only one pulley on the motor, which means your machine is likely complete and only needs a belt.

When you're looking for stuff like this image searches are a huge help. Good luck!

It may not be as complete as hoped; there should be a tracking knob on the back under the blade tensioning knob. The hole for it is there, and you can just make out the threaded hole in the plate.

I’m not familiar with that specific brand but I used to have a similar model. From memory the tracking knob would have a long thread and a spring which acted as a friction lock.
