    Default Knocking/Clunking Sound Jet 14" Industrial Bandsaw

    Hello, recently I have noticed that there's a knocking sound and seems to be coming from the bottom compartment. It started the other day just soft barely noticeable knocking sound and didnt think much of it, today it's started to get more frequent and louder enough for me to turn the machine off as I thought the blade might be about to spin off. My first thoughts were the bearings or axle

    So I've checked: top and bottom fly wheels, I've grabbed them like a steering wheel and checked if they are loose, the spinning route of the blade to see if anything was obstructing it, the bottom fan belt for tightness/also the little wheel it spins on doesnt seem to have any loose movement, made sure it was all level and no vibration in the base and legs, and checked all the screws and bolts.

    When I switch it all off and had both top and bottom doors open I gave the top wheel a spin it rotated several times and then the sound clunk (only one time) came from the bottom, I did it again and clunk after the wheel had spun several times. I did this right at the start to try find where the sound was coming from.

    The machine is new (4 months old) and it's used probably every second day, used with jarrah, pine, and some other wood thats brown but I dont know its name. So I'm nice and cruisy using it nothing extreme or any heavy work loads.

    Has any body had or heard of this happening to the Jet? does anyone know what the term ' memory bump ' is or means? oh one more thing the blade runs sweet and true on the fly wheels so all of that is square and running true.

    Any help would be appreciated

    I assume you haven't had the blade grab in your wood and put a kink in the blade so that it makes the noise as it passes the guides?
    Another thing to check would be the welded join in the blade to make sure it is not starting to separate.

    In case its a ball bearing in the process of failing, mark the wheels with chalk and see if the 'clunk' comes at the same place each time. Sometimes one ball will go bad or a chip will break off in one of the races (I think that's what they are called) and eventually stuff the whole bearing. You may want to do this with the motor too - making sure the power lead is disconnected first. Your local service station should be able to point you to someone who can replace bearings if they don't do them - its pretty simple, you just need the right tools.
