Kreg Bandsaw Fence
Does anyone know whether these are available in Australia?
Ordering one from the US is not viable due to high shipping costs.
thanks

How much was the shipping quote, and from whom was it obtained?

Kreg Bandsaw Fence
The US quote was from Rockler who I have dealt with before and found them very reliable.
Shipping costs ranged from US$35 surface taking 8-12 weeks to US$150 for air express via UPS 3-5 business days. I have found that the larger the box the more likely you get charged GST.Also UPS charges some pretty hefty fees on top.Dereg

ups. hate 'em.
Oh, I see the problem now. Yeah, I never buy from sellers that insist on using ups. They (ups) wants the package to get blocked at customs so that they can charge you an outrageous 'brokerage' fee to release it. They are second only to Australian air Express for crap service.
You can try Louis Ittura of Ittura designs in Florida. His 2005 catalogue price for that fence was $105.00.
They are happy to send usps, my order took a (very) few days and was $9.00
He doesn't have a website, but the email is:

Lee Valley
Hi Dereg,
Lee Valley also sell the Kreg fence ... you may want to email them for shipping costs and options too.

Cheers,
Krunchy.
PS. Just double checked ... LV's price for the fence is cheaper than Rockler's too.

I was referred to, and checked out, the Kreg fence and was also dismayed by the cost all up. Looking for alternatives, Carbatec has a good looking fence for $AUD79. Not sure if its any good in practice, wonder if anyone's had any experience.Bodgy

I recently ordered and received a Kreg precision B/S fence, with optional resaw guide and micro-adjust from Lee Valley.
The cost was US$140 (Au$185), plus shipping at, I seem to recall, at around Au$40 or thereabouts. Arrived within the week.
Easy to install (after I had drilled and tapped a couple of 1/4" holes in the edge of the B/S table), and works very nicely - hugely better that the standard item supplied with the machine.
Go for it!
Cheers

Another option to check out is the Jet fence. Major Woodworking at least stock it, I guess the other Jet dealers too. Seem to remember the price was pretty good - but I'd already bought the Carbatec one when I saw it.
The nice thing about the Jet was the steel rather than aluminium construction - smaller and more solid front rail. It's set up for a 17" saw, but it would be dead easy to modify, if needed at all.The Australian Woodworkers Database - over 3,500 Aussie Woods listed: http://www.aussiewoods.info/

Dear Steve B (Auld Bassoon)
thanks for your reply - did you have any problems with Customs charges on the fence? Who did Lee Valley ship it through?
Also have you used the resaw guide?
regards
Dereg

As to ACS; no probs at all. Unless the shipped value is > AU$1,000 (including shipping), there's normally no problems at all.
Lee Valley uses a carrier, who's name esccapes me for the moment (not UPS) that is very efficient. Never had any issues with shipments from LV.
Cheers!
