    Default Laguna LT14SUV power requirements

Looking at getting a Laguna LT14SUV band saw, but am a little confused over the power requirements. The manual indicates that a 30A breaker is required. However, in talking with the Gregory's rep he stated that it comes with a 15A plug and that 30A is not required. What I forgot to ask him is what size breaker he had for is 15A outlet. Will do this on Monday when he rings back. My rough calculations for a 3HP motor is a no load current of less than 10A - have no idea what the start up current would be let alone the under load draw would be. Does anyone have one of these bandsaws and if so what connection do you have. Any other input would also be appreciated.

I'm interested in the same saw, but must admit I had assumed that a dedicated 15A point would suffice for a 3hp motor. If not, I'll have to factor in some rewiring to the total cost ! Of course, the 30A requirement might just be a hangover from the USA 110V manual.....

I haven't got around to asking Gregory's what the freight costs would be on this machine - can I ask if they have given you a quote for this to your location? All the Laguna gear looks very nice, but I assume that they are only available through the Brisbane outlet?

The Laguna saw is included in a group review of bandsaws in the latest AWR magazine by the way; they seem to like it as well

Freight cost is what the rep is ringing back with on Monday. The USA manual requires 220V - appears to be the same motor. The 3000 series Laguna comes out of Asia and is not Italian made. Reports from the US indicate that performance and quality is very good.

I have the 3hp Laguna platinum saw and it came with a 15 amp plug. I called in an electrician to upgrade the electricals and he suggested doing a 20 amp circuit because it would not cost any more but he said it would work just as well with 15 amps.

    Default Laguna LT14SUV power requirements

    Hi mr brush
Just got one of these from brissie, freight was $135 to western sydney, delivered to my door. I had the drift master fence and a few other accessories but I don't think they added much, if any to the freight cost.

    Cheers, Chris

Gregory's is one of the maddening sites that doesn't have prices, and today is Sunday, so can anyone say what the price of the LT14SUV is?

What is it about these sites that don't have prices (Hammer/Felder is another)? Do they think that because the price is a bit higher that nobody will buy it if they publish the price, and that they'll be able to talk me into it if I ring? Bloody ridiculous waste of time on both sides of the fence.

Chris - thanks for the info re. freight cost from Brisbane, that sounds quite reasonable.

I'd be happy to just have it delivered to a depot in Sydney and pick up from there on my next trip up.

I don't suppose you remember roughly what size packing crate it came in, i.e. is it broken down into a few sections, or is it just a complete "bandsaw in a box". My current Scheppach bandsaw came in LOTS of pieces, some of which were left over after assembly.....

    Cheers

FenceFurniture - the AWR article lists the price of the Laguna LT14SUV as $1595 inc. GST, but you'd have to confirm this with Gregory's.

The machine features in a comparison of 16" bandsaws (even though it is only 14"), and although cheaper than the Carbaforbes/JET 16" machines it has a bigger motor than all of them.

I was attracted by the resaw performance of the Laguna machine, which appears excellent. It can take nice wide blades, has good guides, and enough grunt to resaw anything I'm ever likely to tackle.

Didn't know about the new Hammer machine - still only a 2hp motor though, and likely more expensive than the Laguna. People who have the more expensive N4400 seem generally happy with them, although several have posted on various setup issues with this machine.

Interesting that Hammer seem to bringing out a few 'compact' machines recently; they now do a smaller jointer as well as the A3-31.

Indeed. Reckon the smaller bandsaw would come in at around $2k.

Does that mean you have one Darren, or you've just enquired?

Quote from Gregory on Friday was $1595 incl. resaw King blade - $235 ( it does not come with a blade). There is an alternative blade for $45. Mobility kit - $175. Safari, your saw has a 3hp leeson which is the same as the bandsaw. So looks like a 20A circuit is OK. That is what I have - just dont have a 15A outlet.
