    Default Looking at new bandsaw.

Sorry to revive an old post. I am looking at purchasing this second hand Ascent branded bandsaw http://www.jacks.co.nz/page/ascent_b...bs_series.html
It is the largest of the three in the series. My only concern is the minimum blade size of 12.7mm. Is there a work around for this? and does anyone have any experience with this brand?
    Thanks

    Hi Ropata,

Probably the only things that would stop you running a smaller blade is if they dont make them in the length you require for that saw or possibly the guides are not able to accommodate a smaller blade for some reason. I take it that you would not be wanting to run a thinner blade at anywhere the maximum cutting height of this saw, and would always have the top guides lowered down close to the workpiece in accordance with normal procedures for bandsaws. If thinner blades arent generally available for that saw, you could try and get some made up. If it is the guides that are the problem, after-market guides are available.

My own solution to the problem is to have two saws, the 21 inch 3hp saw always has a wide blade on it and the 14 inch 1.5hp saw is always fitted with one of the thinner blades, saves blade changing and setup time but takes up a hell of a lot of precious floorspace.

I get my blades made up by a business in melbourne. they are always high quality and well made. every time I have been at his shop there has been at least one courier and up to four of them picking up blades which are addressed to customers throughout australia, so I guess he could ship them to new zealand too, if theres nobody you can find on your side of the ditch that does it.

    Default NZ Bandsaw blade source

    Hi Ropata,
GP Sawdoctors in East Tamaki, Auckland, will make up bandsaw blades to any length you want. I regularly go there to get blades for my bandsaw which is Italian-made so it has an uncommon blade length.
Any width you want, from 6mm upwards to 50mm (or more). He will ship blades around the country.

Hey, Hope it's ok to post in response to this- My name will probably tell you I'm affiliated with Jacks!

Ropata, I checked it out with the product manager, that bandsaw should take a smaller blade with no worries. We'll correct the website. If you're in Auckland you'd be welcome to drop in and have a look at one.

    Cheers
    Richard Jack
