    Default Matthias Wandel 20" Bandsaw

    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone here has built Matthias Wandel's 20" bandsaw.

If so, could I possibly ask what size bicycle tyre you used for the wheels?

    Thank you.

is that a trick question? By definition, wouldn't it be 20" ?

but didn't his bandsaws all use turned timber wheels?

    No, not a trick question.

On his smaller 14" bandsaw he used smaller-than-14"diameter tyres for a tight fit.

His timber wheels still need a bicycle tyre for a better grip on the blade when it was turning.

If I recall correctly someone reported in this forum that he regretted building one of his saws but I have no idea who it was or how long ago.

For every one person disappointed, there are about twenty as-happy-as-Larry with the bandsaw.

so looking at the general market for tyres, I am expecting that it'll be 18", but might need to be 16". 14" thru 26" rim size for a bike are available at 2" increments, but just looking at a reputable bike chain online shows there's heaps of options at 20" (59 options), 18" has 3, 16 has 7... so is it better to go bigger ?
