Maximum acceptable bandsaw misalignment?
What is the maximum misalignment acceptable on a new bandsaw?
Our local Men's Shed has just purchased a new 17" bandsaw from Carba-Tec (Model
SBW-4300CE).
On arrival we checked for alignment and found that the two wheels were out of coplanar alignment by about 5mm. Shimming has adjusted for this but has created other alignment issues.
The blade also tracks off by about 3.5mm between the forward and reverse rotation of the wheels, which probably indicates twist between the upper and lower wheels, but I haven't yet measured to confirm that.
This is the first time I have seen this amount of misalignment on a new bandsaw.
I have searched back through the previous threads on tuning bandsaws, and there is plenty on tuning bandsaws (which I have done a bit myself), but was not able to establish what members think is an acceptable amount of misalignment on a new saw.
How much coplanar and twist misalignment would members accept on a new 17" C-T price-range bandsaw?

I would firstly contact the supplier and ask what they feel is acceptable.
The situation of huge ammounts of natural resources consumption, and polution, for low quality merchandise will never change unless suppliers are encouraged to demand better quality from thier suppliers.

what they said,
for mine the only real test is the product, is the bs able to accurately cut veneers through to large blocks? If not then further alignment is required.Tony Ward
