McMillan Bandsaw ??
Hi all, brief Q. for the ... connoistre among you ? now don't be shy please.
Grabbed this toy for the trusty neighbour the other day and 'the dude' had it listed as a Sherwood. Nah says I, don't look like a Sherwood ...but didn't push it given 14" hobby type bandsaws aren't that common. Not one mark of identity there upon that I can see anyways. Like the last beast I had the pleasure of taming was a cast iron overhead 2ft double pulley type at a good mates in Smiths Lake, NSW, so am not up to speed with this portable type. (the spindle moulder was a real finger killer as well but thats another story)
So, can anyone confirm it is in reality a 14" McMillan? Model: JM-8100 perhaps, with a chuh chug ring-in 1250 rpm motor (50Hz, 3 Amp). Vintage? Origin?
Drive pulley is 4&1/2" diam, secondary 6&1/4 (7 &1/16 centre to centre).. with a few variations available for gearing up & down. Original stretch type belt is broken & measures 22" (560mm) X 7mm diam.
Rydells in Darra are onto it in terms of a belt replacement.
Be interested in any relevant info from owners &/or literature, expertise etc
appreciated. beer oclock.

Found da bro/sista (odd feeling it may be the same beast) on
gumtree
Bandsaw Woodworking, 14" McMillan Model JM-81000, 1/2 hp | Power Tools | Gumtree Australia Fremantle Area - East Fremantle
visual only.
Emailed Gumtree Oz, requested particulars. Just maybe they'll be helpful & put seller/ buyer in contact with us (& fecal matter may fly from where the sun don't shine)
Notice after 65 views there ain't much happening between woody ears on this ...
cheers

♥♫♥ sweet success ♥♫♥
What was that song ... but never never on a sunday?
Well I was so wrong, McMillan Air Compressors P L out at Caulfield South, Vic, supplied confirmation that they were the importers of these units ....
25 years ago today.
I guess it is the 21st century when all is said & done (no rest for the wicked etc)
So for future reference:
Taiwanese, same thing now manufactured in China. Parts available from Hare & Forbes possibly (blades, drive belt, wear blocks on guide etc). Forget Carba-Tech Brisvegas, tried them last week by phone & email ... rude, lude & totally useless. Had no idea, didn't want to know.
McMillan model #: WBS14 (W-ood B-and S-aw)
which are different to the #'s in the gumtree photo but anyhoos
Makers part # was JM-81000 evidently.
'O'-type stretchy drive belt supplied only.
Rydells have recommended a trueflex v belt, 2L319 (787mm length).
End of story.
I'd say by the end of the week will have it operational & ready to cut a fingers offa the neighbour
cheers.
- 10/10 & then some to McMillan Compressors.
