    Default Metabo BS 1638 tires

    Good morning,

I have 2 Metabo BS 1638 bandsaws. They are quite old but do fantastic job. They are unique 3 wheel saws. Metabo doesn't support them any more so I can't find original tires here in Australia.

So I bought quite famous blue tires from an American tires warehouse. Yesterday I wanted to change the broken tire with the new one. As usual I put the tire in the hot water for 10 minutes and then managed to put it on the wheel. It was the right size and I was very happy.

Then I installed the blade and tasted the saw. It worked quite smoothly for about 2 minutes and then the new tire came off the wheel. I tried again and again without any success.

The question is - do I need to use a special glue between the wheel and the tire? But if I have a broken tire again how I can remove the old glue in this case?

How to make that tire sitting firmly on the wheel without any glue?

Or maybe you know the local or overseas suppler who sells the original tires for this saw?

    Thanks.

Do you know any business in Australia which manifactures bandsaw tires of different sizes?

Hi there. I had a similar issue when I fitted the Carter tyres to my BS. I used a rubber cement type product from Selleys and had no dramas since.

Is it difficult to remove that cement if you need to install another tyre?
Metabo BS 1638 bandsaw has a small groove around each of 3 wheels. It helps to hold the original tyre on the wheel.

I have just found somewhere on Utube that they recommended to use a simple electric tape instead of a tyre and it works pretty good. I haven't tried it yet but today I will treval to Bunnings and give it a try.

I give you a thousand dollar advise - do not buy bandsaw tires anymore.

Today I bought 8mm electric tape for a dollar. Then I removed that 30 dollars rubber tire which slips off the wheel all the time. I wrapped that tape around the wheel 5 or 6 times.
After that I used the bandsaw for over an hour and I didn't feel any difference as if I had the original Metabo tire.

    Give it a try!

Acetone gets all the goop off. Might even work for electrical tape
