    Default Another newby question

I was checking one of the websites that sells well obviously woodworking tools, specifically bandsaws and not being a bandsaw afficionado I wondered where it states 10" bandsaw and 12" bandsaw.
What does the 10" represent on a bandsaw?
I understand what the 10" would mean on a table saw but bandsaw has me stumped.

My interpretation has always been that, that is the depth of cut.

It appears that this measurement now applies to wheel diameter and has nothing to do with depth of cut. ( I think it must have been a particular manufacturer brand that applied that standard mentioned above)

I coud be incorrect but i thought it was the diameter of the wheels the blade runs on. This does effect the distance from the blade to the rear frame.

my understanding is what david said.

wheel diameter, or the maximum width it can cut. not sure which one.

on the other hand, i dont know what it means on a tablesaw... - never really looked at one before ( cept the saw stop )

Bandsaw: Diameter of wheel - my 14" Carbatec has a depth of cut of 6"

    Table saw: Diameter of blade

the size refers to the size of the wheels.

a 10" bandsaws cut depth can range anyware from around 2 1/2" up to 9" from what i have seen.

I thought it was the distance between the blade and the middle bit of the frame.

and where dose the opposite side of the blade run?

the distance between the 2 sides of the blade is the diamiter of the wheel.

    Default Bandsaw size

    Size = wheel diameter
Throat = distance from blade to frame.
Depth of cut has nothing to do with either of the above. Some smaller bandsaws can be fitted with a "riser" which gives extra depth of cut.
