noisey bandsaw
Folks,
I purchased the BP355 last week for the purpose of resawing larger stock.
I have fitted a 20 mm blade for this work,
I set it up as per the instructions and have used it this weekend and I find it hard to believe how much noise it makes when cutting.
This is my first bandsaw and I have had little experience with them before now.
Is this noise normal, or am I doing something wrong in the use or setup?
Pappy.

Pappy,
It will make a bit of noise cutting and a lot of factors will come into it. If it sounds ok running (without cutting) and by that I mean no clatter, bumping or grating noise just a healthy machine running noise then ok. When cutting there will be a saw cutting noise but it should not squeal. Is it cutting ok as that is the main indicator of a healthy machine.
As it is a new machine I would also check everything is properly tightened up.
Do a google of bandsaw tuneing and see if you have covered all the main points.
Regards
John

BP355 noise
Hi Pappy
I purchased the same model from H&F Sydney 3 weeks ago and appart from a minor hiccup on delivery (which was resolved expertly by a chap named Dean at H&F). I have found the machine to be considerably quieter than my other shop machines - including the vacuum.
I have a 16mm blade on at the moment and other than the sound of blade on wood have found the machine to be comparatively quiet.
On delivery the switch failed (not uncommon) and emitted a loud buzzing sound, quite distinct from the normal sound of the machine in standard running mode. This was resolved quickly to my complete satisfaction.
I couldn't make much sense of the supplied manual, but in preparation of the machine's delivery I read Mark Duginske's "the bandsaw book" cover to cover twice.
This book gave me more insight into Bandsaw operation than the manual ever will.
My set up (based on the definitive book on the bandsaw) has given me three weeks of trouble free perfomance and the confidence to tweak the things I would never have tweaked with the supplied manual alone.
Blade tension, bearing position, tracking, blade choice, blade set, feed rate, timber density...I could go on, all have a major role to play in the performance of the saw under load and could potentially contribute to unanticipated issues (such as noise) if not addressed properly.
I agree with orraloon, if the machine is excessively noisy without a load contact the supplier and seek further advice (don't continue to run the saw). The machine should give a satifying drone sound without a load - no screeching, buzzing, thumping or bumping.
I hope this helps.
Regards
Gazza

Pappy,
It could be as simple as the blade contacting one or more of the guide bearings.
I've got a Carba-tec BAS 350 which runs like a sewing machine if I set it up correctly with just crack of daylight between the blade and the guides but let just one of the six blade guide bearings contact the blade when it's free running and it gets really noisy

.
Thanks, Guys,
I had a look at the rollers and found that the lower rear was hard on the blade.
Adjusted that and its a new machine.
Thanks
Pappy.
