    Default Oopsie...

I just got my bandsaw from Soundman and am very happy with it.

    It's a Durden 12", quality stuff!

Here's the Oopsie...I killed the bottom tire.. Where can i get a new one? Wheel rim diameter is 320mm.

Also I wanna get new blade guides for it. The top guide up-down bit has a square shaft, 5/8" thick. Where can I get them?

And is 72 3/4" (I think) a common blade size?

It's a great little bandsaw and can cut 5" thick hardwood easy

    Funky,

I regards to the tire have a look at this thread Replacing Bandsaw Wheel Tyres. This was on a 12" inch wheel as well so the process would be similar. They have been in use for a couple of years now with no problems at all.

Try contacting Durden (ph 08 8346 5522) in regards to the blade guides or have a chat to Ken at Toowoomba Woodworks. I think the guides on my 12" Hyco are the same size and are just brass square bar.
Have a nice day - Cheers

There was a bloke who used to advertise bandsaw wheel re-rubbering in the back of the AWW mag, I'm not sure if he still does.
    Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

Hmm...good idea, I'll have to have a scout around for some tubes

I don't know if Durden would be able to help with the guides, they don't make bandsaws anymore and the guides that came with it are just metal sticks and a wheel. I want this type or the type that accept these.

You'll find that the metal is brass or bronze. What is the colour?? (you may need to touch them lightly with a file to see). Also the wheel will have a bearing in it.

Any chance of a photo for a better assessment?

    G'day FunkyChicken,

Regarding the roller bearing guides, the 2nd link, I've got a brand new pair (bought two when I was replacing the guides on my old b/saw, which i've long ago sold) if you want them they're yours for nix. they've been collecting dust on the bench.
I make things, I just take a long time.

I'm slightly thinking of getting a set of blade guides made, If I make them to accept 1/2 blocks I'll probably take you up on your offer.

I'll try and get a pic of the guides tomorrow

Go to eBay and search for "sulphur grove urethane tires". They are AMAZING. Easy to fit, work like a dream, I'll never use rubber tyres again.

Only one slight problem, they are thinner than rubber tyres. On my 10.5" bandsaw I had to shorten blades by 1/2" to compensate, otherwise I didn't get enough tension.

Cut a cross section from an old car or 4wd tyre inner tube.
Cut it on an angle so you get a reasonable diameter ring.
Stretch it on the wheel and trim the edges with a stanley knife
It doesn't need to be glued to the wheel.

I like the looks of them. How'd you get them from the US?

If I don't get them then I'll try woodbutcher/echidnas idea

I ordered them online, through eBay.

Because my wheels are an unusual size, I first corresponded with the seller to make sure he could handle it. He instructed me to order the 11" tyre, and include a note that it was actually for a 10.5" wheel. They were made perfectly to size.

I ordered them on a Tuesday night, and they were delivered on the following Monday. The total cost was $44.25 Australian, including postage.

Fitting was a dream. Soak the tyres in hot water for a few minutes, then stretch them over the wheels. All that took was clamping the tyre to the wheel in one place, then it was as simple as stretching a rubber band. No messing around with screwdrivers, dowels, etc., as you often see recommended for rubber tyres. And I did it with the wheels attached to the machine.

After fitting, you leave the tyres to sit for a recommended period of six hours. That's it, right to go.

Since fitting the tyres I've only resawed about 20m of timber. They've worked perfectly, but that isn't any measure of long life. The tyres are guaranteed for quite some time by the seller.

I'm going to buy another set as a spare, then I doubt I'll be doing any more business with the guy for quite some time ... his products appear too good

    G'day Ron,

Do you have a link for the bloke you bought the tyres from?
