Makita 16" resaw
Just found this forum. I am in the U.S. and recently purchased a 16" Makita Bandsaw from a storage unit owner who "inherited" the unit when the renter (furniture maker) defaulted. Where do you get blades for it?...or what is the length of the blade and I can order one here stateside. Love the unit but the blade is shot.. It also has a high pitched squeal sometimes...not sure where it's coming from.
It's the only one I have ever seen...glad to know there are others out there.

If you still have the blade it is easy to figure out the lenght, otherwise you have to lower the upper wheel and take a measurement all around both wheels, then cranck up the upper wheel and measure again, you then have the minimum & maximum blade lenght, figure out a lenght between the 2 measurements for blade lenght.
A few months ago while googleing I came accross a us company that sells these replacement blades but can't find it right now.
Makita's original blades are way thinner ( somewhere around 0.0020'' or 0.0025'' ) than most regular wide blades available today,if I'm not mistaken the original Makita blades are no longer available except maybe in Japan that is why most Makita resaws owners end up using regular 3/4'' or 1'' wide blades.Timberwolf resaw blades could be an option here in case you do not find the real thing.

I have one of these 16" Makita 2116 saws. And I'm fairly ready to sell it as I'm getting older and need to thin down my shop a bit. It's a small unit with real big sawing capacity!

I have a Makita 16" Bandsaw Texas USA
Hello - I purchased a Makita like yours about a year ago in a pawnshop in the Dallas, Texas USA area. It looked to have very little use, with a 2" blade, and all original parts. I purchased a new blade, and installed upper and lower bearing-type guides to replace the original phenolic-type guides. I have attempted to re-saw 1/4" slats from 4" x 4" cedar, and to my disappointment, after a few cuts, the blade starts to drift, and seems to be having a difficult time cutting through the relatively soft cedar. I have tensioned the blade to the max, so I am searching for a cure for the problem. I would have maybe expected problems with re-sawing 6" thick oak, etc. - but the soft cedar has me stumped. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
