    Default Push stick for bandsaw

I have around 75 feet of 6x2" softwood to resaw in the future (down to 6x1")
I have used a pushstick at the back end of the timber but am not very happy with this setup. I am worried about a slip off the timber into the path of the blade.
Any member got some suggestions, I am thinking along the lines of a rebated push stick which lays each side of the 2" thick timber with a back protection plate?

Maybe a big solid push block - say a 6 x 2 about 8 inches long, pushing directly behind the board to be resawn for the last foot or so, against the fence & table, right into the blade if need be (end grain into the blade). It'll get cut up, but that doesn't matter.

Is there any reason you can't pull the timber through the last half of the cut???

I never manage to retain control over a cut moving around the other side and pulling through a piece of any sort of size. Gave up trying that one figuring it was not a smart idea - but hey, whatever works & doesn't result in blood everywhere I guess
