Re-sawing tips
I am about to re-saw some Tas B/H Sassafras board for small boxes.
Can anyone give me any tips on how to accurately re saw timber so as I finish with even thickness timber? From past experience I start with fence set at 10mm and by the time piece finishes cut its about 6mm!
Thanks,
Regards Sandman.

Thanks Craig.
What about blade details? How many TPI? How wide a blade etc?
I imagine a slow feed rate would also be req'd.

Sandman,
I asked a similar question a little while ago. Check the Bandsawn Boxes Forum for some suggestions.

Hi Sandman,
These may help.
1. Get the blade running centrally on the crown of the top wheel. This seems to get the blade cutting parallel to the fence.
2. The fence should only go as far as the blade. If it goes past the blade, the wood will be forced away from the fence as the cut opens up.
3. Use a clean & sharp blade. Clean resin off the blade using oven cleaner. You can sharpen bandsaw blades on the saw using a small chainsaw sharpener in a dremel or similar. just go rom the gullet to the point lightly.
4. Don't push too hard. You'll hear the sound change if you push too hard, as the blade will try to twist.
5. I use 3tpi 1/2" blades for resawing on by 14" Hafco.
6. The more grunt in the motor the better.

I dug out the good old bandsaw book yesterday ( Mark Duginske - Bandsaw techniques- "I think").
There wasn't a lot on the subject but, enough to get me thinking.
I put on a new 1 tpi/ 1 1/4" blade from Henry Bros.
Took a s%#t load of tuning up to get it running smooth. I used the std fence on table with no pivot point req'd.
The end result was great. I have a Carbatec #5300 21" saw and it worked a treat! I guess it's got something to do with the large gullet to remove waste quickly.
I then ran boards through the thicknesser & you got to see them to believe it.
Very Happy! Thank you to all for your help.
Regards Sandman.
