    Default resawing help

have been reading through this section of the forum and noticed how much everyone knows about resawing, i just started this and could use some addvice from those who do a lot of it, i got all the main facts ok like blade selection, but what about fences , who uses them and who does'nt , and how on earth do i get the planks really flat , like if i was cutting veneer, were there is no room for error...thoughts and tips would be appriecated...
