Thanks so much for the pics!

The electrolytic dipping thing didn't seem to work for me. It worked near the edge where the power contacts were made but not elsewhere. I think there was just not enough current to pass through the entire piece (although I could get a light to glow by getting it to draw current through the solution). So, it's back to some manual scrubbing for the benchtop.

The other pieces I dipped in a solution of citric acid and then cleaned up by hand. I'm hoping I can figure out where all the pieces go back!

I also applied a solution to strip the paint. It was pretty gooey and messy but most of the paint came off nicely. I'll do the same with the wheels and then repaint them nice and fresh. I didn't get a pic of the stripped frame but will do so in a few days when I tackle it next. Here's a pic with the goo...

If you have any issues when you're re-assembling post it here.
I've got the same band-saw so if I can help, I will.
    Cheers

Well, has it been that long? Took up study this year so haven't had much time for woody stuff. So today I got back in there and tried to pick up from where I left off.

Did a lot of sanding back of the rusty stand and table. Then started putting down a fresh lick of paint.

Really, I'm just avoiding putting back all these pieces cos I can't for the life of me remember where they all go!

Jim, any close up pics of the bits and pieces on your saw?

The motor is also cactus so I may need to get a new one. Any ideas folks where I could grab something? It's 240V, 1/2HP, and ~1000RPM.

    Cheers,
    Af

    No worries mate.
    Which bits?
I see your guides in the photos, shall we start with a closeup of them?

Everything seems to be sailing smoothly for you, Af! You can check out more information about band saws at bandsawblog.com.

Finally started to make some progress on this. Paint is dry and putting things together with the help of your photos Jim. Got the basic body mounted and put together the guides.

Looks like I'll need to buy a new motor too as the one which I have is burnt out. Any thoughts on getting something more powerful than the original 1/2hp 1000rpm?

I thinking I might paint the knobs red as well, but I'll see what it looks like once it's all together.

Two parts I'm unsure of ...
    1. These holes at the base of the G frame. Surely they're not just breather holes?
    Attachment 215881

    2. The "tension box" at the top. I know it has another smaller box which goes inside but I have no memory of how the parts fit together. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Hi Af,
Top photo: I believe that to be an oil port to drip oil down into the bronze bush below.
Second photo: Uh huh...Been there, done that. You look at the bits and try to remember. It had me going for a fair while too trying to figure it out. I think I may have to take mine apart again to remember how it goes. Yes, there is another box inside that one. Two bolts to each side into that box loose so they slide up and down the slots in the outer box and the top bolt which is the actual adjustment.
I'll get back to you on that.

Re knobs. Let me know how you get on please? I wanted to do the same but was overly cautious that I'd screw it up. I'd love to paint mine too. Maybe someone can guide both of us.

    Jim

Did you ever get this thing back together??

I was wondering if new blades are easy to acquire and also if you managed to find tyres for it?

Also what are the ezy cut bandsaws worth much??

    Hi Dsel,

I haven't had a chance to finish this project. Have it all packed away in storage at the moment as I'm travelling through Europe for a while. Will get back to it towards the end of next year and will update the thread then. Haven't tried sourcing tires or blades for it yet either.

As for worth, I have no idea. Maybe $100 - $200 would be a reasonable price for it.

Sorry I couldn't be of much help.

    Cheers,
    Af.

I don't have a bandsaw so something like this might be a decent simple first one to have a play with restoring and using.

What do the experts think? Worth it or probably more frustration than it's worth?

    Hello,

Our small woodworking business has been using the exact same model for about 2 years now. It's been restored and painted and is still running smoothly. Great bandsaw and is worth the effort in restoring it.

You can get tires from this link. Band Saw Accessories I bought some off them a while ago, no problems very prompt.
    Cheers John.
