    Default Sherwood Bandsaw problems

I purchased an 18" Sherwood Bandsaw from Timbecon a couple of years ago, all up I've probably cut in total 5 metre length of timber ( some short, some very short up to a metre ) not very much use at all. The problem I'm having is setting/adjusting the blade.

The biggist of the blades was installed when I got it and purchased 3 x other smaller blades at the same time. The large blade worked pretty well. Then I tried putting the smallest of the blades on, only about a cm wide and the adjustment gets nowhere near to tightening it.

It's as if Timbecon gave me a blade that was 1" or so too long. I had a friend come around and we tried the 2nd smallest blade which only very just tightened to a useable touch, you couldn't get another part turn on the adjusting knob. All looked good, we ran the saw for a few secounds all was keeping in the middle of the two wheels so we released the tensioner lever at the back and left it.

About a fortnight later I had big plans to cut up a burl, pulled on the tensioner lever and it in no way would tension the blade. I tried the adjustments to the maximum it would go which was well past the blade gauge size tensioning guide and wouldn't tighten any further,, result = still loose, it's as if the blade somehow grew/stretched a couple of inches and will not tighten. I'm really off as it is well out of any warranty that came with it now.

I was hoping there is someone with a lot of Bandsaw experience living in the Mandurah area that wouldn't mind dropping around and have a look at this bloody thing for me.

I mean, it wasn't an al-cheap-o machine, I think it cost me around $1700 + $38 odd for each of the extra blades. So I would really like to start using it as it is meant to be used.

    Thank you in anticipation.

    Have you contacted Timbecon?

I would think that would be the ideal starting point to fix this problem.

Also have you measured the smaller blades against the size of the big one to see if they're the same.

    Neil

PS FWIW Warranty shouldn't play a part in this as it is most likely the blades that are the problem and I'm sure Timbecon would be more than happy to help out if they were the wrong size. If for no other reason than a bit of goodwill.

After all if they sold you the wrong size blades then it their fault not yours or a warranty problem.

They're pretty good folk at Timbecon so give me a call.

Thanks ubeaut for your input. I was lucky enough to find a woodworker in Mandurah and he came around to assist me. We measured the blades and blow me down each of the smaller blades are around 50mm too long, hence the reason they will not even get close to being tight. The Biggest of the blades, which was fitted when I first purchased the saw is exactly the correct length as per the Spec Plate on the side of the saw. I will be contacting the Timbecon Store in Canningvale on Monday to see what or if they are prepared to assist me. I'm hoping they do the right thing considering I also purchased their largest Thicknesser, Tablesaw, Router Bench, all my dust extractors, basically everything to get me up and started. I'll let you know the result tomorrow. Thank you.

To those who saw my post about the Bandssaw Blade being too long, even though I've had the saw nearly 3 yrs, Timbecon are coming to the party and replacing the two blade with the correct length. Timbecon are a bloody great company, thank you
