Sorry, didn't mean to be offensive. I know what these mean, but see them even on TV during childrens hours. In fact there's a TV program, advertised at all hours, with one of these acronyms for a name.
Having said that, of course you're right and I agree that I could have replaced letters. A look at my usual posts will show that's how I usually do things, but I did think these were now acceptable in polite society.

Hermit, not having a go at you specifically, I put the same message in someone else's thread as well.

I agree with you that this sort of language is more and more invading our everyday life, that doesn't make it right in my book and we have to ever mindful of the sort of people that may be reading this forum.

I am rather amazed that some of that language would be permitted in the name of a children's program, just goes to show far standards are slipping.

Yeah, me too. (Getting old, that is.) I did think before using them, but see them so often everwhere.....

To clarify, it's not the name of a kid's show, just the name of one that is advertised, (with huge letters), immediately after school hours.

I used 'short-a55' earlier, with s's instead of the 5's, but I think that's acceptable. (Referring to myself, by the way.)

Off to do a little more work.....

I have friends that swear their heads of not only in front of their kids but when telling them off.
You'll very very rarely hear me swearing in front of kids (usually when someone tries to kill me in a car).
I don't think my father swore in front of me until I was 15 or 16 (and he own a porno shop).

I would be annoyed if kids I know used that type of language when addressing me (sms or otherwise).

I guess its more of
"Would you be happy if your kids were using it"? or
"Would you use it in front of your grandmother?".
If the answer is NO then stop doing it.

I have 2 nieces that use it all the time thru faeces book. Don't know why, they know I see it?? But they don't use it in front of me.

For mine ...

They're using fb to talk to their friends - what you'd prefer is probably not on their radar.

AND ...

"WT_" *is* considered polite usage for many/most below ~30.
The three letters used together convey a concept of surprise+shock+laughter more than just the individual words.

In fact, now that I think about it ... I think for many teenagers + younger ... "double-u-tee-eff" is thought of as a word on its own, and conveys the reaction I mentioned rather than the words you may be thinking about.

In the same way "frikkin' awsome" is a perfectly acceptable term that doesn't need to involve any other more mature conception.

That's weird ... I'm quoting myself ... but it occurred to me this morning that KFC is a perfect example.

If you were around when it changed, then KFC stands for Kentucky Fried Chicken.

If you don't have any idea it was ever any different, then the letters KFC are the name of the company and you wouldn't have any reason to ever think it means/meant something else.

Done.
This is a dry run, no glue, but it's amazingly strong. 2mm toothpicks for spokes.
It's centred on the rim and runs true, too. I'm pleased.
Onto a test tyre next.: -

Spent the afternoon working with the bandsaw today. Did I say 'with'? I meant 'on'.
What a piece of junk. First day trying to get some real work done and it was nothing but trouble. No matter what I do, the lower thrust bearing keeps coming loose and moving back. Also, dust somehow builds up on the face of one of the lower guides, eventually after 5 min starting to jam the blade. All that stops it happening is to back the guide way off, but then the blade wobbles everywhere.

Trying to finely adjust the lower guides raises another problem - the original grub screw mark is so deep that no matter what, I can't get it to adjust 'slightly' - the screw just keeps dropping back into the old groove. Looks like I have to buy new lower guides, at the very least, to be able to adjust correctly.

After a whole afternoon trying to re-saw a 12" length of timber to 10mm thickness. I got exactly nothing done.
I've had about enough.

I might have to just throw this crap in the tip and buy a real bandsaw.
I'm very tempted to give up altogether at this point. The bandsaw is unusable and all projects are on hold.

Really hate to hear about all the issues you are having. Might be best to cut your losses. Return it and look elsewhere?
