    Default Table not flat

I recently purchased the Carbatec Industrial CE 17" bandsaw. With the table pin out of the table, the two halves on either side of the blade slot don't align, as expected; with the pin inserted, the two halves are still by no means level.

Is this normal? What's the standard advice, reference off the unsplit side of the table? Would this be grounds for a warranty return?

    Thanks,
    Michael

Contact Carbatec and ask for a new table. It should be flat!

What he said. Does it make any difference if you tap the pin in further?

In the pics, the table looks dished rather than out of line.
I don't think the pin will correct that.

I'd be putting a straight edge from side to side not just in the middle it will show true distortion over all.

I would double check mounting bolts have not been over tightened and that nothing is between the table underside and the mounting brackets 1st.

If you use a full length straight edge while undoing the mounting bolts does the table then revert to flat?

We, at the Hills Mens Shed bought the Carbatec bandsaw about 6 months back. We had exactly the same problem.

We told Carbatec, they happily ordered a new table, came out and replaced it. It took a couple of months but the job is done and the bandsaw is good.

At the same time we bought a thicknesser and a router table. The main bearings in the thicknesser collapsed within a couple of hours of use. Carbatec replaced them within a few days - all OK now. The casting that holds the fence on the router table is not flat , hence the fences cannot be set. Carbatec has ordered a new casting, we are still waiting for it.

Carbatec's customer service is first class. Their product quality control is doubtful.

Thanks for all the advice, gents.

The above pics were taken with the pin at about 3/4 insertion--the best I could do without the table halves coming any further out of alignment. The two halves are definitely flat and they're also flat in the other direction. I was also careful not to over tighten when I mounted the table but good point, I'll remove the table from the saw altogether and re-check before I contact Carba-tec (good to hear your positive experiences--I wasn't sure what to expect in WA).

Will let you know how I go.

In follow up, a replacement table finally arrived in Perth a few months back and... is not much better. Carbatec have suggested filing the offending edge (the far side of the gap on which stock tends to catch). Guess I'll live with this for now and either file the edge, see about having the top reground if it continues to be unworkable, or construct an auxillary table (top).

I would ask Carba Tech for another Table , or request that they foot the cost of machining the current table.

As the machine is new &under warranty? it is their obligation to correct the issue, not yours , as the tool was brought in good faith , that it was perfect in all respects.

A table that is warped or distorted, is not perfect and does affect the ability of the saw to cut square and parallel. ( see earlier thread in this section).

Be polite and persistent, and if it's under warranty, they should correct the issue.
