Coincidentally, my ancient Basato 4 bandsaw just did the same thing today. Hummmmm, blade moved slowly but wouldn't pick up speed, then it tripped breaker in powerboard due to drawing too much juice. New starter capacitor required, so off to eBay I go. H&F long since dropped support for these bandsaws, so not much chance of getting parts though them.

Well, I hope you manage to get the part, Mr Brush. I had a look on eBay and found similarly rated capacitors but with different configurations for installation.

Yes, but getting the old one out on Basato 4 is a bit fiddly. It needs to be a capacitor with flying lead connection rather than tabs, plus a section of thread on the bottom to secure it to the machine frame. I found a few 30uF 450V examples online which look like the correct configuration, but just need to confirm the thread diameter when I can get the dud one out !

This bandsaw has been getting progressively harder to start for a while (i.e. it needed an "assist" as you posted), but the other day it wouldn't pick up at all.

The Sherwood had been pretty good. Most of the teething problems were mine as it was my first bandsaw. Once I realised the most important thing is a sharp blade correctly aligned and guided, bandsawing has been a breeze. However, I'm planning on buying a new bandsaw soonish, mainly to give me more throat capacity and a little more grunt.

Mine looks almost identical, except 30uF not 35uF. Same arrangement of leads and thread on the bottom though. Ebay should have it, if not the same one you have from Timbecon would probably do the job.

I'm electrically challenged! I usually stay away from all things electric but my second hand dust collector had the same problem about 10 years ago. I think I posted a question to this group concerning the dusty and the consensus was - change the capacitor. That time I took the whole unit to a motor rewinder and they fitted the capacitor.

I do not know if a 30uF capacitor would be interchangeable with 35uF unit. I'd have to ask someone much more knowledgable than I. I usually pick BobL's brain. He knows about these things.
