    Default Too tight .......

..... or too loose? Suddenly my band saw blade refuses to stay on the tyres around the wheels. I reckon the tension is correct before starting work - well, at least equal to previous jobs.
    Any suggestions please.

Must be April fool's day .. band saws' turn to play tricks. Just replaced the guide sets on mine and she's hardly got any grunt at all.

In your case soth, you've checked the tracking adjustment?

    Aye, aye, Ser.

I'm wondering if the tyres are a problem, although they look OK.

there are two likely possibilities - tension and co-planar issues.

For further research have a look at Bandsaws and Blades information sites

    SB is correct.

For no apparent reason my bandsaw blade began to wander when resawing. The tension was crankked up high, so that was not it. Looking at the blade I could see that it had hardly any side support from the guides. This allowed the blade to twist and follow any grain. Looking at the wheels I found that they were not coplanar and, as a result, the blade was over the edge of the upper wheel. This pulled it forward and beyond the guides... I let off the tension on the blade, reset the blade, and re-alligned the wheels. The guides now re-engaged and all was working again.

I can only imagine that the wheels went out of allignment because i was not releasing the (high) tension on them when not in use.

    Regards from Perth
