What to get,
Hi All,
I am after a decent bandsaw for doing resawing and general use, I have soome experiance with a cheaper 10", looking for something a bit stronger and precise
Resawing up to 300mm would be good and I guess the wider the blade the better???
Happy to spend a couple of grand if it necessary, im in Darwin so freight and warranty might be a bit of an issue
Also, Icould it get one of my 10amp GPO upgraded to 15amps if required so a 3hp might be acceptable
been look at some of the Harvey 14" and laguna as well, just a bit worried that some only have a max 16, 19mm blade width, is that and issue????

Hi Simon,
I tend to think you should get the biggest machine space and budget will allow. Even a very big bandsaw doesn't have much of a footprint. The second hand market usually turns up some awesome bandsaws in the 20 inch plus range. The market is probably a bit smaller in Darwin but keep an eye out and you'll be surprised.
Cheers,
Zac

If you are thinking of just having a 10A GPO swapped out for a 15A then that is unlikely to be legal.
15A GPOs should be on their own circuit and breaker which means installing a separate breaker in the breaker box and running a separate cable from the breaker box to where you need it.

Yep I thought the bigger is better rule would apply, I guess it just time to keep looking and be patient for one to come up that the freights not too exy

Bigger is always better, especially when it comes to motor horsepower. A 300mm dam. wheel is really a bit small if you want to run the larger resaw blades, 14" is better, it puts less strain from bending on the wider and slightly thicker resaw blades. And weight comes in handy for stability and vibration reduction. Strength to counteract the tension of the blades is also needed as is some research on how to correctly calculate the correct tension for the blade. Relying on the manufacturers tension scale can often lead to problems simply because they are often totally inaccurate.

NTChippy bandsaw choice
Simmon001, Wow another NT wood worker on this forum. I`m in the same boat as you and am thinking of buying a Harvey Ambassador C14 or a Harvey HW614E. Have you bought your bandsaw yet and if so would l be able drop into your place and check it out?

Seems like Simon fell off the earth after he posted this thread as he hasn't been back on since a few days after the initial post. Hopefully you are lucky and he still gets email alerts from replies to his thread.

I purchased a 14 inch some 10 plus years ago. One of the most used piece of equipment in the shed.
I sometimes think I need a better one for resaw capacity. Maybe one day. When the current one breaks. I would suggest getting the best you can as it will last a very long time.
