Wonky band
Hi all,
Been using my bandsaw regularly for some months now - no real problems until yesterday.
I was trying to cut a small piece of mdf at an angle and while feeding it I must have wobbled it from side to side a little - the band grabbed the mdf and pulled it down so hard it cracked the little plastic insert that sits around the band. The band was caught at a twisted angle and the wheels turned without being able to rotate the band.
I turned it all off, cleared the blockage and checked it out - it works ok but the band has a kink where the twist was. When I try to cut now it kicks to the side whenever the kink passes the job and the cut is far less smooth than it used to be.
Is there any chance I can straighten the band, perhaps just by twisting it with a couple of pairs of pliers - or should I put it down to a learning experience and trash the band?
Cheers,
Adam

I'd be trashing the blade if it was me.
Cheers

You might try tapping the kinked part flat on a block of wood with a hammer. It should still run for rough cuts but it is finished for smooth cuts. It also sounds like your tension is not high enough if the wheels can spin without the blade moving. Maybe it was the drive belt slipping on the motor pulley ?

Thanks guys, consider it trashed. I don't really do any rough cuts.
Len, it's possible the motor pulley was slipping as the motor was still turning but the band wasn't so I just assumed the wheels were turning (can't see them). I think my tension was ok, but I'll check.
Thanks again,
Adam
