woodfast 19 inch bandsaw sled
hey guys...just upgraded my bandsaw from the carbatec 14 inch dual speed bandsaw to a woodfast 19 inch ...
my question is with the mitre guage slots being skinnier than normal slots is there a way of making a sled for it for mitres or crosscutting small bits ...
here is a pic of it ...

They may be smaller, but they are still slots running across the bed, so what's stopping you making one?

What happened to your Carbatech? I am now in the market for a smaller bandsaw.

It can be hard to find off the shelf metal strips to match small slots and wood strips that small can pose problems also. The miter gauge however has a rail that fits the slot so you can attach a sled to it. The other way is have rails under the sled that slide along the table sides. I have used this method to make a sled for an old combo machine.

I have the same BS & it has two mitre slots. Matching the "T" slot dimensions exactly is not really an issue because you have the two slots. All you have to do is rip hardwood strips (or UHMW/HDPE) and glue them to the bottom of the sled or inlay them into the bottom if you feel the need for extra strength. Main thing is to set the two strips so they run tight to either the inner or outer edges of the slots so you remove any free play.

My Hammer 4400 bandsaw has a narrow and shallow slot. I built a runner out of a cheap clamp blade. Find one that fits or, as I did, use a belt sander to grind it back slightly.

A clamp blade is the length of steel on a clamp, such as this one (but cheaper) ..
Blades for my 4400? I use the bimetal blades from Henry Bros (Sydney). I re-sharpen them myself, usually about 3 times. These blades last a very long time in our abrasive hardwoods. I have a couple of Woodslicer resaw blades from Highland Woodworking (USA), and the one I tried ran dull within a few minutes!

I resaw down to 1mm with this blade ...
It is all in the speed you push through the blade. The board on the left was pushed faster than the board on the right ...
